I took a few vacation days this week just to do some riding. I did 72 miles yesterday on an excursion through the Bronx, Manhattan and Brooklyn and today did a 40 mile ride through some Westchester Co. towns. Tomorrow I have a nice route planned and will take some photos. There is nothing like cool weather cycling to relieve stress and decompress.

Today is my 60th birthday, so I decided to take a day off and do a birthday ride. I ended up a little over, at 63.25 miles in weather that could have been better. I think it was about 39 when I left and never got out of the low to mid 40's, overcast all day with a bit of drizzle here and there. I dressed properly, except my feet got a bit cold on a few occasions. Nothing to serious. Got a few pictures along the way.

This one is in North Stonington, CT., where I stopped and had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

I must be nuts. I ride mostly my road bikes and my mountain bike, but since I found a bike almost identical to my childhood BMX I been messing around on it on the property or around the shop, but for some reason I decided to take it on a 10 mile ride. It was BRUTAL but worth it just for this pic I guess.............

You guys are killing me! After having a hip replacement two weeks ago, I've been riding nothing but my recliner. Oh well, at least it's been pouring down rain.

otg, great pics! With Woody Hill you are channeling your inner JJScalliger!

JMullet, that is a cool pic too. Worth whatever grief you had to ride though to get it. 10 miles on that bike? You'da man!

Kac, do recover quickly and go riding vicariously here.

I rode my commute again today. So far it is only Tuesday but it feels like Frumsday. Traffic today was barbaric. But when I'm on the bike it mostly doesn't matter to me except for the long lines of cars I have to pass. And all their headlights when I return home.

So far I have logged 180+ miles since Monday. This week has been lovely for riding. A tad chilly but dressing appropriately mitigates that. Today I rode 71 miles on my '89 Fuji Ace build up the South County Trailway and on the North County Trailway up to Pleasantville, NY then back down to Pelham Bay Park and City Island in the Bronx before heading home. I took a few photos along the way. Heaven knows why some insist on uploading to BF sideways. The trail ways were built where the old Putnam Railway Line used to be and it was lovely. Most of the time I rode by myself only passing the occasional jogger and a few guys riding old steel. I do have to say though that the portion of the North County Trailway that I rode on wasn't terribly scenic but it was enjoyable.

Typical "autumn" day in NC, or what passes for it. Temps climbed 30 degrees from sunup to 3 pm, then dropped fairly rapidly. I planned my ride for 3 pm and overdressed a bit, then was glad of it as I rode on shaded roads with the sun going down and cooling temps. Other than that, normal 20-mile ride, smoother than usual, guess it's dialed in. Migrant workers are done with sweet potatoes and many have moved on, so I don't see the repainted school buses, the camps are empty, and the roads, after a couple of days of rain, no longer have mud on them from the fields.

For the past few days, the wind up where I live has been brutal. (Last year, our tandem was blown over while we were riding.) Today, my wife and I hauled our bikes down to 6000 feet and did a 25-mile loop. The air was in the low 60s and traffic was non-existent.

This was the first ride on my Univega since changing its stem and shifters. I don't know that I could be happier with this bike. OK, maybe with indexed shifting.

A quick 12 miles during lunch on another splendid December day in southern Illinois (no joke). 60f weather and empty paved paths.

One of my usual, around here, boring rides. 22.5 miles, av 17 mph. Strava gave me a bunch of 'attaboys' so that was nice. No pictures (I know, I know, no pictures, didn't happen). This was only my second time out this month, should have done yesterday, too, but couldn't psych myself up, and too much other stuff on my plate. Last week I was out of action with a nasty case of tendonitis in my left ankle. Lots of ice, two day using a crutch, all seems good, now.

There's picture, I have to go back, deserves an attaboy...

And vonr's harbor photo, nice.

Like Ed., my rides didn't happen. Just the commute. The most noteworthy feature is the pair of turkey who inhabit the front yard of one house in Lexington, doing some turkey things about 5ft from the edge of the road.

Really windy today, but it's hard to complain when it's 60 in Indiana in December.

Since it is an incredible 75°F here in Richmond, Virginia, I got out my '85 Fuji and went for a nice ride (almost 25 miles (24.88 to be exact)), in 1 hr 30 min @ 16.5 mph pace.

I stopped briefly at an old cow pasture alongside the road and took a picture of my Fuji at the wooden fence and pasture in the background.

To make this really C&V, I went into the photo editor and switched it to black and white... Talk about looking "old school"!

It has been 45 degrees all day. So this morning I had a brunch to attend in midtown and decided to ride down rather than drive. Round trip about 16 miles, including a stop at Sister Pie. Here is the cool condo conversion mansion it was held in.

OJ2, what kind of gearing do you have to ride up a 90 degree slope like that?
Addendum: Oh dang, he fixed the pic. It was more fun the other way though.

We took the tandem out for 51.5 miles today. Stopped for a snack in Concord at this relatively new memorial.

We had a real lunch in Carlisle and returned through Concord to stop and visit briefly with a friend working at the Concord Free Public Library.

Unbelievable weather here for this late, close to 60. Rode in shorts for most likely the last time this season. Took my Holdsworth out for about 25 miles or so.

Gosh, we're holding up the cold end in the upper 30's here in Minnesota. Did about the same number of miles as degrees today.

A one barn high bump (looking back down)

Tossed in several miles of gravel also

Old school water tower in this cemetery

Season's Greetings (even if it's green and brown outside instead of white)

60 F here as well. I wound up turning around early into the ride to switch to shorts...had one of those rare days where nutrition and rest are right where they need to be while riding - such a great day.

Pretty cool to watch the prep for winter. The operator of this was quite impressive, no wasted energy.

And of course, the last leg of the ride began with a stop for post-ride refreshments...

I rode my commute today. The morning ride was nice. The evening ride was nice and wet. Very wet. Very very wet.

But I got to see the pretty illuminated fountain my front wheel was throwing up in front of the bike.
