Went east for doughnuts.

Bought 7, inspected the local park, ate 5.

Roads around this area reminded of this.

Took the long way back.

When I look at the rides out west some of you post I am humbled.
I did have fun even if it's flat.

@Andy_K and I decided to go on a longer ride. We needed a destination to make sure we didn't turn around early, so decided on the Screaming Chicken diner in Gaston. They've got a $30 6 egg 6 pancake 1/2 pound of bacon 1/2 pound of sausage breakfast that's free if you can eat it all in 30 minutes. We thought about it for 5 seconds, Andy ordered a burger, me, a BLT. Good thing, it was about 60 miles total and got up to around 85 degrees by the time we got back. We didn't want to lose that "free" breakfast a few miles down the road.

Too much to do today, so at least I got in a real quick 7.60mi spin around the neighborhood. 28:33 for an (avg) of 16.0 mph, which was a real nice cruising speed too.

Here's a hilarious image that begs for a caption: Anybody seen the "Headless Horseman"? How about Ichabod Crane? LOL...

Did a little recon for @gugie's upcoming ride across WA. The first leg is getting his crew from King street station to the I-90 bridge so I scouted an old route I used to take and it still works!

In ya go

I remember the tunnel, but not how to get there!

Isn’t there a Jimi Hendrix museum near the “in ya go” part?

You may be thinking of the Northwest African American Museum which has a Hendrix exhibit and is not far from the trail. Its only about a mile from the Station to the Tunnel pictured. Easy Peasy.

I've unthreaded the bottom brackets on all three of my French bikes. For some reason, I never seem to remember to do something about it on the first build. I've had very good experience with blue loctite. Going on it seems like there's no way it's going to help, but having taken one of the bottom brackets out after securing it this way I can tell you it's pretty stubborn stuff.

Good to hear your experience with blue Loctite. I am not anticipating taking this BB apart anytime soon, so I'll leave that struggle for an older version of myself and let that poor SOB have to deal with it

It went against everything I know when I pulled the BB apart, degreased the threads on the fixed side, and made sure things were dry when I went to install. Usually everything gets a coating of grease for anti-seize properties.

Our older selves are generally pretty used to suffering for things that our younger selves did, so that should be fine. When I say it was stubborn, BTW, it was at the "pausing to make sure I'm not trying to turn this in the wrong direction" level of stubbornnes, not the "where did I put my cheater bar" level. It came out with a standard tool. I don't even think I used a hammer.

Ah good news

I may have used a rubber mallet a little bit to give my wrench a bit of an impact driver effect I don't normally resort to such violence, but of all the things that can go wrong out on the road, I feel like this is one of the ones that you really don't want to happen when you're a couple hours away from home.

For Jimi, Renton is the home of his grave with nearby USPS dedicated accordingly.
Just a bit south of Seattle. Might be a more convenient stop if flying into SeaTac and biking to North Bend.

edit- let me find the pics at his memorial:

Missed it. Big cake/cookies, coffee/tea soft Jimi music in the background.

Underwhelming but it’s something.

Ride to Crockett and through Vallejo with a mandatory stop on the bridge. Marinoni was in top form.

Surprised to see theMare Island golf course closed. Oldest one west of the Mississippi.

I’m in Santa Clara on business for the rest of the week, and since I don’t have a zero bike down here @gugie let me borrow his Bike Friday. This pic was taken between the office and the hotel, along the San Tomas Aquino Trail.

The longer daylight gave me time to include an extra bit.
The Cedar River Trail ends at Lake Washington just past the Boeing Renton plant.
This is the Lake Washington with a public pier (fishing permitted) and a kayak&rowing rental business.

A few fishermen, a few strollers right next to the end of the Renton Airport runway. Didn’t photograph the warning sign - ‘Jet Blast Kills’

Maybe the commercial aircraft plant with the most planes delivered.

I'm just glad you figured out how to put it together out of the suitcase! The real trick is getting it back in...

Pepper Goes To Hastings

On Sunday, I brought my current favorite bike down to Hastings, to ride the usual trails. Unfortunately, the Mighty Mississippi River had other ideas...

Momentarily bummed, I soon devised a Plan B: The Vermillion River Trail network runs all over the west side of town. I'd only ridden it once before, but I remember it was very pleasant.

Some here might remember the shot of my Peugeot Orient Express on the "Bridge of Locks". Here's Pepper striking the same pose:

Oh yeah, Pepper stands for Pashley Path Racer (PPR).

The Vermillion River trails branch off all over the place, and soon enough I got rather lost. I don't carry a smart phone at all, so I don't have a GPS with me all the time. Instead, I get adventurous and ask strangers for directions

The fellow on the Trek 950 told me I was about ten miles from where I started, and gave me some simple directions to get back there. But once I figured out where the river was, I just took trails that meandered in that direction.

I think I've taken some version of this shot with all my bikes now. I guess that makes it a tradition!

Anyway, it was a beautiful day for a ride, and I arrived home tired and happy. It doesn't get any better than that.

Well, I've done that once too since I did a test assembly at home, and you're right, that was a real trick. If I have trouble on Friday I can just leave a wheel here and pick it up later.
