Timing and the weather finally agreed with one another, so today I got in 19 miles around Asheville.
Before I left, I used those fancy tiny little grease ports on the Dura Ace hubs and pumped in some fresh grease. To do the freewheel side on the rear hub, the freewheel needs to come off, so I removed that and noticed that the freewheel seemed super gritty, so I put on a different one (same gearing as the one I took off). The old one will be going to Bob for a servicing. When I was putting on my shoes I saw that one of the cleats was broken, so I installed some NOS cleats. Rode for about half a mile, adjusted the cleats, the rest of the ride was great.
Got stopped by a guy (think his name was Paul) on a very modern carbon bike, who was really into checking out the Trek. We had a nice conversation, then went on our ways.
Only one pic today, from a road I was checking out for the first time.
Looking at downtown Asheville:

33 miles out to Rabelais Cajun Bakery and Restuarant in Santa Paula from Ventura, CA, riding my recently completed '78 Super Course. I'm really liking this bike, started out as a $20 CL find. It was a club ride with Channel Islands Bike Club. A couple of other steel touring bikes, but the Raleigh was the only oldie on the ride. After 3 days over 100°, a nice marine layer came in and brought in a little moisture and 60ish° weather, at least at the start. Good times.

My Raleigh, which started as a $20 project bike. I still need to get around to new bar wrap, sweet ride though.

Rabelais, a must stop in Santa Paula.

Too much good stuff. Decisions ...the brownie square won, followed by the macaroon in a photo finish.

Passed 500 miles total on my '81 Trek 710 yesterday

I'm planning on having a lot of work done to it once I finally get it configured exactly like I want it too.

Probably a couple hundred more miles to get things dialed in, and then it will likely get torn down and sent to a local(ish) framebuilder for some refinements and modifications.

Rode up the Paterberg today, in preparation of the Retroronde van Vlaanderen tomorrow. Short, but nasty. Had to walk the last bit.

No pics, just wasn't in the mood to whip the camera out while riding today. Did a nice 30.6 mile route around Ashevegas this morning. Set a few 'personal records' on Strava as well (whoop-de-doo).

I recently moved and now live in a great area to cycle, so it's motivated me to get back on the bike. The ride is on Signal Mountain, TN and the scenery is Red Bank and Hixson, TN below. Just north of Chattanooga.

Know Your Neighborhood Ride

I finally got out on the bike a couple days ago after 4 weeks of packing, moving, cleaning up the old house to sell, and unpacking. My new home in Point Reyes Station, California is less than 12 miles from the old one. I spent a fine couple hours enjoying some of the local trails.

This was actually yesterday. I had heard of a small chapel in a nearby village and wanted to go see it myself.

There it was. The village consists of maybe half a dozen houses around it.

Here's some clear-cut forest from alongside a trail on the return leg of the trip.

And here's a typical Finnish countryside gravel road.

On June 6, we were staying with my wife's newfound cousin in Kekkut, Hungary, way out in the countryside. He has spare bikes, so he told us to go take a ride.

It's a beautiful rural area, with all kinds of vegetation and crops and animals. It's near Lake Balaton, a resort area.

I rode the women's one-speed, and Carol rode the men's MTB.
