Big distance/climbing day yesterday, 90 miles, 4800 feet, heading in the general direction of Mt Hood. In addition to the wonderful natural scenery, I saw a couple things I'd never seen before. Since it was tougher than usual, I needed to stop a bit more as well. Picture taking made for a good excuse to stop.

My Roy Thame has been immobile for a couple of years, as I'd donated its "Randnner" bars to mrs non-fixie and been busy with other projects. This week I finally got around to getting it ride-able again and took it out for a test ride today.
The good news is that it's pretty much perfect.

It is, isn't it? Yet there are so many nice bikes to be found there. This is supposed to be a touring bike, with all the amenities, but at 10kg w/o guards it's one of my lightest bikes.

I rode to my LBS and the building had stacks and stacks of customers bicycles needing tuneups. Talking to the owner he said he wouldn't be able to build my wheels yet. I told him dont worry about it they can wait.
Looking at the bicycles all of them seemed the "buy, use for 2 weeks, neglect for 3 years" type of bikes. Now with this pandemic they all want to use them but need repairs.
I decided not to give him more work.

No photos, but on Saturday I did a 68 mile loop from Visalia to Portersville at a rather easy pace, and took a few days off the bike and did some running. Tonight I went out and did my first personal "time trial" on a road out between Visalia and Hanford that I found, where there's a twelve mile stretch with just one stop sign and minimal traffic. I did the twelve miles out in 39m30s with a slight headwind, and came back in 36 minutes flat with a little tailwind. Felt great!
The new goal for 2020 is to do that 24 mile round in an hour or less!
Oh, and this was done on a 1972 Raleigh Professional wearing 700x25c Continental Gatorskins.

They used to call this the suicide bridge. They built the pedestrian walls really tall, so I'm not sure what they call it now.

shake down ride on the all new ‘80 Chrome Schwinn 11.8. Rides awesome and fast. Just need to tweak the rear derailer a bit as well as get some more power in the brakes- (may need to upgrade there). Stripped all the way down cleaned and polished all parts, , took the clear coat off, polished with quick-glo, regreased bearings, swapped in 700c Araya rims and an alloy post, 420 mm vintage bars in place of the 380, new Brooks saddle, 32mm gravel kings, new cables and bar tape. Weighs in right at 25 lbs.
I rode my normal 16 mile loop just as fast as any other bike I have ridden including my carbon specialized.

Likely my last ride in Portland yesterday. I took off the fenders and put back on the 32mm Gravel Kings (had been 28mm Paselas). Big change to the ride and no rattles from the fenders! I went out to Troutdale, into the Columbia River Gorge on US30, then peeled off at the Stark Street Bridge and returned on city streets. No particularly exciting pictures.
