I've only seen seven snakes (yes, I counted) in all the camping and hiking I've done in the Pac NW over the last 15 years. Quite different than where I grew up in the plains/south/southwest.
How strange. I've been finding garter snakes (and salamanders, skinks, frogs, etc) here in the PNW since I was 5. I guess you gotta know where to look

Kidding, of course. Today I went on walkabout and did my local portion of the Tolt Pipeline Trail. While exploring a side-trail, I surprised a garter snake - but I wouldn't have noticed it if it had stayed still (currently not wearing my contact lenses so am pretty much blind - long story).

The one in the photo is over by the wetlands bordering the UW Bothell campus. I'm actually familiar with this snake and its "family". Although this one was the only one out that day, there are about 8 total that hang out in this one location. One just molted and I snagged its one-piece shedding.

Great photo!

Canon Power Shot Elph 160. Pretty good little pocket camera. I grew up on Kodachrome 25 and Try-X 400 pushed to 800 and other fun stuff. What is really bad with these cameras is no way to add a polarizer or UV filter

When we rode the Great Allegheny Passage, we were near the top. There was a woman near a stream bent way over. I though crap, I have to watch someone puke while on a ride.... She straightens up and says "hey, come check this out!" So we wander over and its a garter snake, with a frog's hind end sticking out of its mouth, legs kicking. Well, that was entertaining.........

Took a nice ride yesterday up to Pike National Forest about ten miles each way great ride. The Forest is still closed to camping or motor vehicles for a few more days so got in a good 10 miles on nice dirt road by myself which is nice. In a few days when the road opens up there will likely be a tone of 4 wheelers and Motocross riders so I likely won't ride it again this season.

Up early this morning for a long ride. Took the catch-trail from my neighborhood onto the Snoqualmie Valley Trail and spent the day riding an Out n Back over to Cle Elum on the other side of Snoqualmie Pass. 112 miles all gravel, no cars and very few people. Gonna sleep well tonight.

I went out for a night ride this evening on my newly rebuilt Performance Superbe. Between all the bars being closed down and people generally having no place to go, it made for a pretty pleasant Friday night. I followed my typical commute route, which I haven't ridden since the first week in March.

This is one of the most unnecessary "road closed" signs you'll ever see.

One ride with new white bar tape -- maybe I need to wash my gloves once in a while.

It's my birthday today, so I treated myself to a pre-breakfast ride over the Mendips.

Out through Banwell, Sandford, and Churchill, then up Burrington Combe, before turning off and continuing climbing through Charterhouse, and on to Tynings, just below Beacon Batch, the highest point of the Mendip Hills. Amazing views from here in the clear morning, over the Bristol Channel as far as Wales.

After that it was over a mile of descending into Shipham, then Sidcot, Loxton, and back home through Bleadon in time for a full English breakfast.

After many weeks of isolation, Mrs non-fixie and I took a couple of bikes to the other side of the country for a weekend of riding in Twente.

Do you like the Deda handlebar tape? I will eventually need to redo the tape on my bike and was curious which tapes are good to use in terms of comfort and quality.
