Blue Wheel is still here, different spot though. It’s my favorite shop, run by Scott Paisley. You’ll see some of his frames around although he hasn’t built in a while. Blue Ridge Cyclery is our other. We used to have about 5 shops, probably more than a town this size could support, as time has shown.

molleraj the Duplicolor paint that is a match (or really close match) for Schwinn Sky Blue is Chrysler Insense Blue Pearl. This is also available in a brush on. After posting about the paint, i realized that you also will need a silver base paint. If you use Duplicolor touch up paint, it probably would be best to use a Duplicolor silver touch up paint first. Sky blue is a radiant or Candy Apple paint. It has a silver base and a light color coat to give it that shimmering look. Buying one Duplicolor touch up paint is a little pricy but having to buy two, you have to be motivated.

The same goes for nail polish and Testor's paint. Silver first. Let it dry and then a light stroke of blue.



BCC0422 is the Duplicolor paint code. PB3 is the Chrysler paint code.

Rode out to Rattlesnake Lake last night with northbend and a trio of local riders to watch the Perseid meteor shower. First nighttime ride for me in a long time; riding through the forest within a little cocoon of light is pretty surreal. Picked up a few bats in my headlight (gifted to me by Matt - thanks, dude!), as well as a deer on the return leg a couple miles before reaching the parking lot. A neat experience I want to do again soon

It was dark, so I didn't get the normal slew of pics, but I tried:

From Renton, it's about 10m paved, 5m gravel. Hard gravel surface, 25mm tires will be fine.

I am slowly trying to coax mrs non-fixie towards the classic drop bar racing bike format, and this is where we are now: A 1984 Koga-Miyata RoadWinner. Still in beta, so daily test rides are in order. With a bit of luck it will come along to Eroica Germania next week, hence the 110 BCD Super Maxy cranks.



Today's route was a little over 20k, and passed through the town of Aarlanderveen:

The weather was sort of nondescript, neither warm nor cold, not much wind and not very sunny, which makes for excellent cycling weather:

I went to visit family and friends in Toronto a few weeks back and brought the Voyageur to take a bite out of the city's ever-improving cycle infrastructure. Its fun to go to the city you're from and play tourist. That said, it was a steamer of a day, and two hours later on my way back I ended up stopping at the below park to fix a flat

Here's the Voyageur in Riverdale Park, overlooking downtown and the long stretch of high rises that follow Yonge Street toward north. The Don River is hidden behind the line of trees at the bottom of the hill - the ravine path system is where I was headed to visit the water front. It is an odd perspective shot in that the entirety of the east-of-the-Don streetcar neighbourhoods are behind me.

Here in Ottawa, I went out on a ride on the Sun Wasp with some folks to grab food truck happiness.

Here is a route that takes advantage of that gravel portion and adds some climbing as sell - ignore the pigtail up to PooPoo Point on Tiger Mountain Road if you want to avoid the toughest part of this route:

Hot and humid all week, with thunderstorms and heavy weather every PM. Finally caught a day where the storms stayed in central IL, so I did 59 miles north after wk.

Lots of trees down from Tuesday's "wind event". Power and tree crews were out all over the North Shore. Lots of debris still on the road.

Some very large limbs down. Many were hollow, so no surprise when they snapped.

This sunrise this morning reminds me of Afghanistan. I know it's not appropriate but spare a thought for all the poor people there who are very frightened.

We were without power for about 24 hours. I went for a putt around town on my three-speed Wednesday to survey the damage and to see where ComEd was working. Took me 70 minutes to find a ComEd crew.



Lots of trees down or damaged. This one (on Sherman north of Noyes) was the most impressive. Note the lifted sidewalk sections and the crushed car underneath it.

I hied myself up to Lake Forest today. First stop was the remains of the downed tree from Wednesday's ride. The tree and the crushed car have been hauled away, but the stump remains:

I've been visiting Rattlesnake Lake for nightly dippety-do-dahs during this latest heat wave. The night Drillium Dude was with me was the clearest night sky of the bunch, lots of stars and a few meteors putting on a show.
Last night was warmer but much smokier as the winds shifted and drew in wildfire smoke from blazes in Eastern Washington and British Columbia.

I went back up there today for a noontime swim. Here is how it looks today:

Swapped over some Soma Highway One bars on to my track bike. Compared to the deep drop road bars that were on there previously these are much more comfortable.

Steamy morning but still managed about 18.5mph for a little over an hour. On a rolling loop around Donaldson Center airport. Really missed riding this one.

Beautiful Sunday - temps in the mid-70s, high pressure, low humidity. Rode 64 miles "up".

I've been exploring Deerfield lately, trying to find an alternate route to the "West Indies". As always, streams and interstates keep things boxed in. I found a bridge over the "west fork of the North Branch of the Chicago River" tucked away in a park. A good find, since many of the bridges are only on busy roads.



Next to the bridge, I found this odd hook on a pole. Turns out, it's a "disc retriever" to fish Frisbees out of the river. There's a disc golf course in the park.




They've planted native flowers all along the river and it looks quite stunning, especially against the contrast of the park lawn.



Had a crusty PBJ at the 30-mile mark. I've been doing 4-hour rides with only a couple of cereal bars, and it hasn't been enough. Tasty - could have eaten 2!
