42+ wonderful miles and 2,900+ feet of climbing on an out, around, and back ride to Harveys Lake. The fall colors are just starting to pop in some spots. Temps around 72.

My Aunt/Uncle owned a house on Harvey's Lake and Lake Sylvan in the 1970's. I spent quite a bit of time on the water at both lakes, and ice in the winter. That was when the amusement park at Harvey's Lake was still operating. Beautiful area, I bet my Aunt's little cottage is still there. (both have passed)

Beautiful photos, great website. My wife and I rode our Trek 820s out into the country, it feels like the summer heat is finally over.

I took out my newly rebuilt Falcon San Remo on it's maiden voyage. I rode my usual 20 mile route around some Minneapolis lakes. The bike rode better than I expected since it is by far my least valuable bike.

It’s really beginning to feel like fall out here in North Bend.
Once it warmed up a bit a few of us got out for a ride out on the Middle Fork Road just outside of town yesterday.

I went out today on one of my usual routes, and then decided to mix it up a bit by taking the Buena Vista Ferry over the Willamette River, into Independence for a lunch stop, and then back into Salem. Not many pics, but I did manage to map my route with Ride with GPS (a newbie effort), get a pic on the ferry, and capture some fall leafy brilliance.

A nice fall day today in the mid 50's temp wise with some clouds. Took the single speed Nishiki on a short local trail ride just outside Fairplay.
Looks like this may be the last ride this season without snow it will probably snow tonight.
A lot of leaves on the dirt trails at least there dry and not wet.

The Hoarding Season
Saint Paul, Minnesota. It was a dreary, grey day. At least it started that way. Clouds blocked the sun from illuminating anything directly, although there were signs of clearing on the horizon.
I stopped for a break on the Wabasha Bridge:
Riding my old faithful Ranger, it was a wanderful, meandering ride. (Yes, that was spelled the way I meant it. If it isn't a word already, it should be.)
Eventually, colors began to reappear. I still couldn't get the sun to shine directly on my bike, but at least the background livened up some:
Yeah, I pumped the saturation a bit on this shot. I had to. After several long, bleak days, I am starved for color.
Winter is coming, there is just no stopping it. Soon I will be dashing about, like a squirrel hoarding seeds and nuts, trying to store enough bright, vibrant imagery to sustain me through the season of cold and dark.
If the zeitgeist continues on its current course, the darkness may settle-in for an extended stay; sort of an evil occupation. Resist! We must... or Spring may not venture this far north again.

Stayed overnight in North Bend, then met Matt to ride out to Fall City to ride the Carnation Valley Loop with Bob, Doug, Lynn, and Steve. Three layers up top ensured I stayed toasty in the shade. I took lots of pics, but I'll just post 10 of them here; as always, if you want to see more, check out the Flickr link in my sig.

I was out exploring some of the mansion-y parts of Portland today on my new Stumptown CX build (made in Portland, sued by Specialized for using the word “stump”, went bankrupt) and kept finding cool stuff to take pictures of.
This is a trolley line that runs between Portland and Lake Oswego that the city keeps operating so they don’t lose the right of way. I’ve ridden the trolley once, but I thought the scenery was better from a bike. Cool signal:
The Riverdale neighborhood is a bizarre web of crazy mansions and twisty roads. I kept finding streets that said “No Outlet”, but the heatmap feature on Ride With GPS sometimes tells you differently, and you find cool cut-throughs like this:
I came out in an isolated little neighborhood and found a SW Trails sign. This is a network of urban trails in SW Portland that usually lead you up someone’s driveway and up some cool singletrack. You’re supposed to walk, so I did.
This one took me up a canyon into Lewis and Clark college. There was a little house made of sticks full of college kids smoking pot, but I thought it best not to photograph. The campus is, of course, on the grounds of an old mansion.
Pretty cool. And the bike is a gaudy beast, but a great ride!

Rainy week, but finally cleared up today. Sunny and temps near 80 - not bad for October in Chicago. Rode 76 miles up to Mundelein and points east.
I've been scouring Google Earth for a "southern passage" to Lake county. Finally found it in a small trail connecting 2 neighborhoods.
Passing through some nice older trees.
The trail spit me out at the Vernon Hills Metra station.
Found another trail to get across the Seavey Drainage Ditch. According to Fishbrain, you can pull Largemouth Bass out of here.
Didn't see any Bass, only Rainbow Carp.
I decided to stretch things out and rode up to the main gate of the Great Lakes Navel Station.
Believe this is a VF-103 F-14 Tomcat. I'm better with vintage bikes than vintage planes.
After the base, I turned around and headed back to the ranch.

There was some rain last night, but this morning was pretty nice for a ride. Went out on one of my new favorite, short, close to home rides. West Salem out to Spring Valley Road. Apparently wine is popular in these parts. Known as the Eola-Amity Hills, or Eola-Amity AVA, for those that know their viticulture. Also found a 19mm Crescent-brand box wrench, the spoils of the open road! Not many applications for bike work, but the price was right.
I think the grape harvest is in for the season.

Nice fall riding went to Pike National Forest and some riding on the back roads and trails on the Schwinn Mesa GSX. It is really starting to seem like Fall most of the leaves are off the aspens and there was a bit of ice on the beaver ponds.
They finally got the wood bridge across the beaver ponds done so you actually get to the bike trails.
