Summoning the spirit of Fausto, Roger rode strong all day, clearly the faster of us up and down.

That Roger is a beast. When he came out my way to ride up to Hurricane Ridge, I was only able to ride the first couple miles with him (I was on duty at my hotel, 20 minutes was about all I could spare). But he made the 40 mile round trip in about the same time I would have taken just to make the 20 mile trip up. So he's either one hell of a lot faster climbing or descending than I am. Or a bit of both.

I'll ad a few pictures to Northbend's post. I had a great time riding with Matt.He failed to mention that he had hike Mt. Si the day before and ridden 130 miles the day before that, on top of riding Cayuse Pass last weekend.

43 miles of gravel grinding south of the Cities today. Lots of soft over hard conditions, making for lots of sliding through the corners on the descents.
Along the Cannon river
Some passing farms, lots of planting today
Some of the roads just slip away
Usually to cross a small stream

There're some beautiful scenes and there are some beautiful bicycles posted in this thread. Both are very inspiring and make one want to get out and enjoy themselves on a bicycle.

Agreed. Stunning photo's. Almost feel like I've been on a cycling vacation without the expense. Keep posting people.
Picked up a piece of glass in the front tire about 2 miles into today's ride. That makes 2 flats (in the first 4 miles) since I installed "that" new front tire.

Tom's Ride
Tom Cuthbertson was best known as the author, in 1971, of Anybody's Bike Book, a bike repair manual for the home mechanic. Every year a small group of cyclists get together to ride his favorite loop in his memory. Tom was a gravel grinder before there were gravel grinders. The course is about two thirds pavement and one third dirt roads and abandoned dirt roads. He would ride this 70 mile loop through Central California's Salinas Valley and the Coast Ranges on an old Hetchins with file tread tires, long before the introduction of special bikes designed for this type of riding. The first dirt climb begins early on in the ride, topping out at an elevation of about 2,300 feet with fine views of the rugged Coast Range.
We then cross into Fort Hunter Liggett, an Army base with many square miles of open grasslands dotted with oaks. The base allows quite a bit of public access. One of the more peculiar features of our trip through the base is the "Iraqi Village."
]
The river crossing is one of the more memorable features of the traditional route. There are two other river crossings but both of them are shallow enough to ride.
We then climb a paved road out of the fort into the Los Padres National Forest where we take a lunch break next to another stream.
After lunch we begin our final ascent on an abandoned dirt road that has reverted in places to single-track. Total climbing for the ride is 7,000'. The country is rugged semi desert with lots of striking rock formations.
The bikes we choose range from full-suspension mountain bikes to cyclo-cross race bikes. They all work fine!
The owner of this nice Black Mountain Cycles 'cross bike is not admiring his toes: He's checking himself for ticks.
The mandatory bike-with-blooming-yucca picture. The Yuccas were fabulous!

I just got back from a nice 'n easy, leisurely, 11.25 mile ride in the western suburbs of Richmond, VA. Sorry... Dummy me forgot my camera.
But according to MapMyRide, I did 11.25 miles in 43:34 for an avg of 15.5 mph.

You folks out on the left coast are having too much fun. Stop it now before the politicians get on your case.
We took the tandem out for 42.3 miles today. Investigated a few roads we hadn't ridden yet. Also I finally moved into the (20+n)th century and got a smarffone which, among other things, takes nice pics. So we didn't carry a camera.
It was lovely day, cool dry air, light traffic.
Lunch by the water
Another stop for more food

No sweat, our politicians are in on it, too. My congressman is sort of a transportation wonk, including building more bike paths. I like this guy, I'm gonna vote for him again.

On Sunday afternoon we took the baby out for her maiden voyage in the trailer. We didn't want to push our luck so we only did 15 miles on the South County Trail in Lower Westchester County. She loved every second of it sitting there munching on Cheerios and Goldfish. It was also my wife's first opportunity to try out the '87 Cannondale Black Lightning build that I finally finished for her on Saturday. We finally have the whole family rollin'.

@echo victor It actully is the UO8. I stripped it and powder coated the frame but kept the fork with the chrome. The fork was chromed under the paint. Thanks for the kudos

Though sans stoker had errands to ride for. Smarty phones- hehe. They tell the real story... 25.5 miles total and slugged an avg. 14.3 mph in the wheezy windy.
Anyways, a nice older fellow (90+ yo) complimented the bike. Told me of a tandem available in his basement. Been sitting for years, doesn't even recall the name. Gave me his number and said its something I might like.
Cute cabin. Storm, hail now rolling in. Cheer's

Two days ago I went on a quick 23 mile ride on the Fuji Ace during a bit of free time midday. Nothing special but it was a fast, high tempo spin on the lower part of the South County Trail.

A good week so far. Monday afternoon I took my CAAD3 onto the SRT for the dash from Oaks, PA to the top of the Manayunk tow path then back (32 miles RT). Warm, sunny, clear skies, almost no wind. Felt strong both ways and it was a hoot.
Yesterday I also set out. Started at the east end of the Chester Valley Trail (at Gulph Mills) on the Raleigh Pro. I'd planned this ride last week but cop'd a flat tire 3 miles from the car. Having installed my spare I decided that wisdom dictated going back to the car instead of 12 miles further away. So yesterday I set out again and all went just ducky. Overcast, no wind and 53 degrees. This was really my first ride on the Raleigh since November as he was off the road during the salt season the just recently ended around here.
What joy, what a great bike, what a good day. That 531 contraption just flew along. Great handling, smooth tranny, great spirit. I ate my lunch at "The
Battle in the Clouds" then continued west. Did not see any red coat dragoons. Out in Exton a contemporary (IOW an old man) followed me to the Gents, where I'd stopped, to ask about the bike. He has a vintage collection too so we 'kicked lies and told tires" for 15 minutes. I told him to check out this forum to find like minded people. I took my bio break then set out again, same direction he'd gone. Within minutes I pasted him doing over 22mph - that Raleigh just could not be stopped. I cannot wait to do that all again.
