Got out for a cool morning ride out to Larkspur. Rode a section of trail that had been graveled to cover pot holes. Give a quick ding before passing a dog walker and got a "you didn't think I heard you coming?" Ha, damned if you do...

I'm in that odd group of people that are working from work. Still, it feels like groundhog day, and my usual 18 mile round trip to work was getting stale, so I pulled up ridewithgps and figured out a back way home, 32 miles up and over one of our local climbs. I'd never driven or ridden the climb up the backside to Bald Peak, yesterday I figured it was time.

About halfway up I saw Mt. Hood, crystal clear in the background.

Also saw Mt. St. Helen later on.

On the other side of the climb I flew down the road that I usually climb. It turns out it's much easier that way. About 8 miles from home I realized I had a flat, but it seemed like a slow leak, so I stopped and pumped it up. Every 2 miles or so I stopped and pumped. Had I changed the tube it would have been about a wash.

Today I turned 60. So that meant I had to do a 60-mile ride. I was on familiar routes through Boston's western suburbs. Temps were around 50, mix of clouds and sun. Quite nice. And we're having BBQ for dinner.

Happy Birthday, Neal! 60 is a real milestone.

This is Stoney Creek, one of the runoff aisles from Burke Lake. We've had tons of rain the past ten days or so, and pretty much every moving body of water has overflowed its banks multiple times. The paths down in the valley are full of tree roots swollen from the rains and springtime sap rise, so they're bumpier than usual.

When Sr. Pelizzoli and I worked out the specs for this custom frame, one thing I required was flexibility in wheel and tire size. So although I usually run it with 700 X 25's, it will also take 700 X 32's...or these 650B X 38's.
Been over three years since I ran 650B's on the Pel, so took a little time last week to switch over. Like riding on a cloud with Italian unicorns. Or maybe a 'racing Italian adventure bike'!

Absolutely. In the 1970's we used to go a week of clear weather before a haze set in, now its daily. But of recent this is all better. Air quality much better. But we are having a very very unusual April. We are usually wet and cold, but not this year. Pretty odd. Not complaining however. The pollen level is over the top, WAY over the top. Cars are yellow and crusty. A ride requires my eyedrops, inhaler, nasal spray and antihistamines all on board before I head out. And the excessively wet weather in January left the roads full of nasty potholes. Usually its cold and snow but this year the endless wet eroded out a lot of support in the roads.

Happy Birthday! Now you can cut the social distancing line at the grocery store. Happened to me last week..."anyone on line over 60? You can go right in!"

California's social distancing orders had their silver lining for me today. I rode my LeJeune which I rebuilt for the quarantine project thread. This road in the Point Reyes National Seashore is 3 miles from my house. It leads to a very popular beach. After the crowds thronged to the beach on the first weekend of the "shelter in place" orders the Park closed the road to vehicular traffic. Fortunately for those of us on foot and bike California considers exercising close to home an essential activity. If you want to go to the beach you must either ride your bike or travel on foot. Given that it is about 8 miles to the beach with a thousand-foot hill in the middle, very few people are using this road.

On the way to the popular beach is a dirt access road, always closed to traffic, which one can ride or walk 3 miles to a backcountry campground and much less crowded beach.
