Went for a group ride...two people a group? I guess the threat of rain scared them, lol. Oh well, caught up with another group we met a few weeks back and rode to Yerba Buena island. Stopped by a new park on the way back. McLaughlin park is a reclaimed landfill.

Unintentional dropper post

Lesson learned 1 - check those nuts and bolts
Lesson learned 2 - make sure your multi tool has all the fittings you need

12mm wrench needed but the multi tool only went to 10mm. When I fixed it at home it was fairly loose - I either forgot to snug it up (likely) or it worked itself loose, maybe helped by the rear hanger.

About half the intended miles at 14, but at least I learned a two for one lesson (free at that!) and not on a super long ride!

I seem to be leading a rather canal lifestyle lately. Farmington canal last week, then the Blackstone canal then, today, the Schuylkill canal. First ride of the season on my Nishiki International. Lovely machine. Road testing the "new" handlebar/picnic bag that I created from an old Cannondale saddle bag. Room for a sandwich, carrots and chips. And table cloth, monogram'd napkins, parasol, cork screw of course. Gotta do these things right, eh?

Just out and about on my Griffon, but it was nice enough to sort of require sunscreen (first time this year). Japanese garden at Chicago Botanic Garden:

First ride of the season for the Jan de Reus with the new fit measurements. One thing did not change. I do like how Dutch bikes ride. They just seem to talk to me and say "GO!" One thing did change...no hand issues to speak of. Why did I not get a professional fitting years ago? I futzed around for years trying to solve this myself.

Riding a bike to Yerba Buena Island. Wonders will never cease. I need to check that out.

Now that is a statement bike! I like it! Glad you got the fit issues sorted.

Little ride up the east side of the Susquehanna, and back down the west side. 39+ miles, 2600+ feet climbed. Did a few gravel roads, some ridiculously steep. Had to walk it a little bit.
Great day out. No bike pic, but the Cannondale 2.8 got the nod.

Shakedown ride on my Dawes Galaxy. It hasn't been roadworthy in a couple years. Moved the mismatched SKS fenders over from my Eisentraut (which will eventually get new fenders suiting its status in the stable), installed a rear brake and new KS MAFAC 4-dot pads all around. It still needs some small tweaks, and the saddle has to go, but I think it serve as a suitable replacement for my Schwinn Speedster (much lighter to boot). Over a 10-mile ride, the brakes didn't chirp once. Who are you and what did you do with my MAFAC Racers???

Colnago BI Titanio

This post is more what you ride rather than where and very fitting for C&V. I have been enjoying a few rides this week on the Colnago TiTanio and mine is the BiTitan version. Super ride and the design seems to make it ride on rails as it so stable especially on turns. I made a few changes that helped improve the ride even more. Swapped to Dura Ace wheels that match the component grouppo and 3T bars & stem for a little extra reach and more silver bling, and the SSM regal leather saddle also best fit for the period correctness. Did a nice 45 mile ride down the river trails and around the lake a few loops. The wind was no problem on this ride.

Today was the annual members' meeting of the Dutch veteran cycle club "De Oude Fiets". I joined their ranks only recently, as their main focus is on Dutch pre-WWII machines, but they seemed like a nice bunch, and they operate a small but friendly forum with some very knowledgeable members.

The program included a short ride, so I brought a bike along. I did feel very much like a noob, as my bike wasn't even 60 years old, and in color to boot.

https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...06ca58581e.jpg

Most bikes were in black & white:

The ride was quite nice. Not much to see in the area, except for the bikes, so lots of opportunities for a talk with the other riders.

Re The Dutch Club = not much color on cyclists either. Not many hats. I forget how drab typical clothing was.

Today I headed east on the Powerline Trail. No idea why it's called that. :foo:

https://photos.smugmug.com/City/More...4%20288-XL.jpg

It's been a while since I've gone this far east. I remember seeing this bridge over some railroad tracks under construction near central Gilbert last year. There used to be a ridiculous sign with a map suggesting MUP users detour a mile south to the nearest signaled crossing on a busy road. Of course everyone ignored the sign and crossed the rarely-used tracks right there. Well, now the bridge is done and everyone is safe, I guess.

https://photos.smugmug.com/City/Phoe...4%20290-XL.jpg

There's not much elevation change here, so the view is very exciting... OK, a little exciting.

https://photos.smugmug.com/City/Phoe...4%20296-XL.jpg

I was on my '86 Schwinn Prelude. I originally had 38mm Gravelkings, which I hated. They rode nice but were so incredibly flat-prone, and they wore out twice as fast as any tire I've ever had. Now it's 3,000 miles later on Schwalbe Marathon Plus without any flats, which is saying a lot in Arizona. Ride quality is far from cushy, but it beats fixing flat tires all the time.

https://photos.smugmug.com/Bike/Schw...4%20300-XL.jpg

I went all the way out to the eastern edge of Gilbert and headed back on Williams Field, where the city expands ever outward. It's dairy farms and alfalfa fields, then bam, luxury apartments and townhomes.

https://photos.smugmug.com/City/Phoe...4%20308-XL.jpg

Everything's going up with the speed of a Hollywood movie set.

https://photos.smugmug.com/City/Phoe...4%20313-XL.jpg

None of this was here the last time I came this way.

Took the Mercian out for a test ride along the Hayward shoreline. It was my first time on the path, so I was surprised it was mostly gravel. Thank goodness for the 35mm Gravelkings.
