I hear you about the toughness of the recovery process, but hang in there. Less riding now will mean more riding later.

I started the new year off right by riding about 40 miles on my Colnago Classic. Not too cold and I felt pretty good. I stopped to take a shot of the bike and then remounted. An eighth of a mile down the road, at the bottom of a hill, on each side, I was accosted by three large pitbulls that were loose. It took a little negotiation but I was able to re-mount and ride back the way I came. I turned onto a road I hadn't been on in a while and as I passed a pasture I heard hooves to my left. Expecting to see horses I was a little surprised to see zebras, yep zebras, a herd of them. When I stopped to take a pic they got spooked and went back over by the barn, quite some distance away.
With the safari over, I headed back on familiar roads to an old farmhouse where a very old German Shepard lives, I hadn't seen her in a while. I didn't take a picture of her today, the one posted is from a little while back. We had a good visit (as we always do) and she watched me ride away, sitting at the end of the drive. I was getting kinda hungry so I turned towards home only to find the road closed because of creek flooding. I ducked under the bar gates and went anyway. I've lived here all my life, I can look at the creek and tell if the road ahead is passable, it was; albeit wet and muddy. I cruised up the hills and rode into town and home having traveled further than the miles I covered. It's a good day to be alive

A short errand day. But nothing short of fun riding...
It was over to the post office to check on what it’d cost to ship a set of calipers to Canada.
Then down the road...
and across the tracks.....
to the co-op...
in search for a few things...
before heading home.

If you know the destination city code (Canada) or zip code (USA), you can Calculate A Price on USPS.com.
It is accurate and lists the shipping options.

Yesterday, I got out for 26 mile loop up Tunnel Road in the Berkeley hills--my first day back on a bike in a few weeks following busy holidays and a minor surgery on my leg (removing some screws). Today, I followed up with 33 mile loop from Berkeley north and around the backside of Wildcat Canyon Road and through Tilden Park. It felt nice to back back on a bike--even if I'm a little out of shape and carrying a few extra holiday pounds.
I took a small diversion at the beginning of the ride, in order to stop for a quick photo in front of this Mondrian-inspired storefront. A fitting backdrop for my Look.
Then just one more pic on the climb up Wildcat Canyon on the way back into Berkeley.

First road ride of the new year!
We have had an unseasonably warm last couple of days here in Northern Illinois. Today was in the upper 40s, and I got out for 33 miles on the 716.
Tried out how this bike deals with a front load, it did pretty well even considering it's stock 56ish mm of trail. Steering was a little heavy, but certainly not unmanageable.
I did get a little beat up on our very rough roads, even with 700c x 32mm tires. I've been riding my 650b x 38mm Velo Orange over most of the winter, and I really nismisthe extra cushion.

As @abshipp noted, it was lovely today south of Cheesehead Land. Rode from Evanston to Hyde Park on Chicago's Lakefront Trail. This was my first ride since the official opening of the separated trail (peds and bikies). Also my first time over the half-finished Navy Pier Flyover. And... My first time using the Wahoo Elemnt Bolt Ellen gave me for Christmas (recorded the round trip as 44.0 miles). The 6˘ cyclocross tires on the Super Sport worked great, splattering mud all over everything on the one little cinder/dirt stretch by Montrose Harbor. Not the cushiest tubulars, but the price was right.

Another mild January day, and a short ride.
across the river...
down the path...
over a field...
pass the stadium...
to the public market where I locked up along side two Super Mirages...
before going inside for coffee, and an almond muffin.

64° in January!?
One of the benefits of moving from LI NY to North Carolina is the weather in January we had today. Took a short ride on the nearby Greenway. (Just realized: it doesn't look too "Green" in this shot Took the Cannondale instead of the road bike since the last time I ran this trail it was scattered with rocks and pebbles in some sections; not in the mood for pinch-flats.

Missed the sun and 50s yesterday, so had to settle for upper 30s, clouds, and wind off the lake.
First ride of the year and first ride since early Sept. 2018. 22 miles up the northshore.
The always splendid Bahá'í temple
Empty Wilmette harbor
At the Winnetka boarder
All bundled up

First ride of the season. Kept it down to a 16.5 mile ride to the local bank branch (got paid for a bike job last night).
On my '73 Raleigh Tourist. Didn't feel like getting dressed up in cycling gear for one of the derailleur bikes, and I absolutely love that old rod braked monster.
