pre-raleigh Phillips roadster
Here's one from the local Craigslist-
a "vintage Phillips bike" in San Jose http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l2...er/full_rt.jpg Turns out to be a nearly complete though rattle-canned 1957 Phillips P.10 Heavy Roadster. Rare to find the 28 x 1 1/2 wheel Phillips bikes in the states, I'm told. Only the saddle, rear reflector, and one cotter pin are replacements. Tires and chain are shot, but bottom bracket, headset, and front hub are fine. Jury's still out on the twitchy Sturmey SW hub. Chrome is in really good shape, with only some scrapes on the handlebars. Rod brakes work okay already with some oil. This one will clean up very prettily. My neighbor bought it, and is ecstatic to find a men's roadster that fits her. This one's 52, and just starting life, really. |

Few pickups from the last week or so...
198(?) Univega Custom Maxima. Craigslist find, pretty small frame. Cost me $30. http://i894.photobucket.com/albums/a...t/P1010010.jpg 1969 Columbia Tourist. Craigslist again. It's in great shape, no rust, tires are great, and I have a NOS shifter cable for it (old one is screwy). Has the grip shift sturmey archer, but I would prefer a normal shifter. We'll see what happens. Cost me $50. http://i894.photobucket.com/albums/a...t/P1010009.jpg 199(?) Schwinn World Sport. I assume it's 90s because of the SIS shifters/derailleurs? Not sure. Not a bad bike though, cromoly tubes. Cost me a buck. http://i894.photobucket.com/albums/a...t/P1010003.jpg 197(?) Huffy Bay Pointe. This was an odd grab, but I couldn't pass it up. I swear, this bike was never ridden. Everything on it looks great for its age. If nothing else, I will use it as a donor because the shimano 3-speed hub is shifting beautifully. Cost me a buck, again. http://i894.photobucket.com/albums/a...t/P1010006.jpg Someday I'm gonna get around to taking the NICE shots you all post... but for now, you'll have to deal with my messy basement backdrop :) |

New to BF. Here is what I pick up. each for $35. The trek 1220 came without STI shifter/break levers. the miyata came with one missing and one not working and a non-compatible rear deore LX derailleur... but both are in great shape otherwise!!

Need: 8 spd shimano derailleur (Ideally, 105 FH-1056) and shimano 2 x 8 speed STI shifters (ideally 105 ST-1055). |
Picked up a 1988 Cannondale SR1000 today at a typical low price. Like every older Cannondale I have seen, this one has some serious paint failure. The good news is that it is an all "Shimano Sante" component bike, so it likely will be parted out on fleabay.

This was my catch for last week... the Club Fuji 1984 Red&Yellow
Suntour Cyclone components. Front rim is the original Araya alloy with the sunshine hub, back is some piece of junk that I can't get even for the life of me. Nice Suntour track pedals! A little over $100 after paying for gas and tolls to get there. This is gonna be my beater... after I get the benotto red jelly handebar tape, and clean it up a bit. Weighs in at 23lbs http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j2...ClubFuji84.jpg |

On to my find :D Okay, so.... yesterday, a fellow hanger-outer at the bike shop mentioned he's been restoring a vintage Peugot, but discovered that the frame really doesn't fit him; it's a little too big. Knowing I seem to come up with bikes from time to time, he said that if I ever saw a small-sized vintage lug frame, I should grab it for him. Totally unrelated, at a club breakfast ride this morning, one of the riders asked me out of the blue if I was interested in an old Fuji he bought for his wife years ago; she never really rode it he said. He said I might not be too interested since it was a small frame, but if I wanted it, I could have it. So I drove over this afternoon and picked it up. I'll offer it to the guy from the bike shop; if not, I'll flip it on CL. It's a 1978 (possibly '77) Fuji Sports 10. All original except it was hybridized with mountain bike bars and knobby tires. http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...t/100_4380.jpg http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...h_100_4379.jpg http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...h_100_4383.jpg http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...h_100_4375.jpg http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3..._100_4384a.jpg http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...h_100_4384.jpg http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...h_100_4381.jpg http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...h_100_4382.jpg And there's a little more: On the way home, I stopped to pick up a video for my wife at Blockbuster. When I came out, someone was looking at the Fuji. "Nice bike!" he said. I said, "Thanks, I just picked it up." The next words out of his mouth kind of floored me: "Hey, are you Doohickie from the forums?" :D |
Nishiki Manitoba
Picked this Nishiki Manitoba up for $10.

I came across a 1950s Rudge Whitworth Sports 3 speed with front dyno hub. I am still haggling with the seller. Does anyone have an idea of what is a fair price for one of these.
