Welcome to C&V billbillw - That Miyata 512 is a very nice bike. -( Your first C&V snag and you are already hooked! )

Thanks for the welcome. Yes, it is easy to get hooked. I love finding hidden treasures and great deals. Not sure if I'll keep looking or not. Don't really have much room in the garage with both cars inside, so I don't see myself getting a 'fleet' of bikes. Might sell and trade up though. Depends how this Miyata feels after some long rides. If I don't feel cramped, then I'll probably keep it.

Me neither; it's more of a 'squadron'. :D

2 Miyata's should do me...but...I wouldn't mind a 1000.

Oh, and nice Concorde.

Maybesomething with Campy.

And I suppose I need a single speed in the mix somewhere...

And who am I kidding? a 912 isn't a Team! Or even a Pro, so there's room for a higher end Miyata as well...

Oh, and then I need an ugly beater commuter.

No...2 is DEFINITELY not enough!

saw a faggin on cr for 75.00....all campy super record...good shape. problem was, i was not in the area where i live....which is sacramento, in fact i was 200 miles away. called the guy up, said he had an offer of 125.00 from some guy that was coming over. i offered him 200.00 and he said he would take it. my friend went over, checked it out and picked it up for me and bought himself, from the same guy, a very unusual carbon fiber bike, i never heard of called a "polch" he said the lugs and the way it is made looks just like a steel frame bike. very very unusual. the owner said he bought it decades ago in southern cal. where they were popular with some of the riders down there. his bike came with a mix of super record and chorus. anybody out there heard of those before? by the way, he paid about 350.00 for that one. the paint job is just too good to describe here so ill try to get some pics of both bikes

Don't know if it's a squadron, a fleet, or a home for old bikes... :)

Not much of a catch, but who throws out two perfectly servicable (but dusty) bike carriers for a roof rack???
Got the bolts and brackets for a couple of euros from the hardware store, and they´re ready for the summer holiday.

I got this at the dump today. I was wondering if anyone knew anything about it. The only decal left is on the seat tube and it reads "original artland". I couldn't find anything about it on google, and any information would help.

The C&V disease always starts innocent enough then before you know it you have a garage, basement, and/or shed full of bikes and parts.

A recent find on the catch and release program. It found a new owner today.

It would be so great to have that many choices.

On the contrary if you ask me, you still have your one or two favorites and you never ride the rest and feel bad for even having them, seeing them not being put to use and all.

brandenjs 02-19-10 07:26 PM

I picked this up today at the local Salvation Army. It is a 1988 Mongoose ATB. I believe this was before Mongoose started being marketed through the X-marts. It has some decent components including 200GS shifters, Exage 300 Biopace crank, Suntour AX 5000 derailleurs, and a double butted 4130 frame. I'm not crazy about the color scheme, but it will be a great C&O Canal bike. The price was reasonable at $40. It has similar components as my Trek 820 which I really like.

Hi brandenjs - I had to Google C&O canal - Looks like a fun ride !

autonoz 02-19-10 08:58 PM

Picked this up off of CL a couple of days ago after some encouraging words by members here. http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=138274

Yes the Canal is pretty cool. I am planning a multi day ride for the family (wife and 2 sons) for this spring or summer. So I have been looking for a couple of ATB's that I can outfit with some racks and be comfy to ride. This one will be great for my 13 yr. old.

OK so what is it ? - An '82 614? - or a 610 or a 712 or ?
In any case I think you got a real deal.

auchencrow 02-20-10 07:35 PM

Another winter project completed…
This ‘72 bronze Super Course came to me in a pretty sorry state: The bearings were set in dried brown mortar, and it was covered in dirt, stickers, and aluminum duct tape.

After cleaning, I overhauled it, and replaced the front wheel with the Weinmann here that I rebuilt. (It was a pretzl.) The seat tube decorations you see are from a local auto parts store. The Kenda’s are OK(especially for the price), but I’ll probably put some Panaracers on it later.

The freewheel and chain are new, otherwise I retained the running gear as it was when I bought it - including an old Suntour V-GT-Luxe DR, which I am pretty pleased with. Nothing wrong with that cottered Stronglight crank either IMO.

- I decided to do just a half-wrap on the bars, and I know it looks like I chintzed on the cable housings as well (black on the bars and white elsewhere) - but I think it gives it a bit of an austere look, which was my intention.

Anyway, here ‘tis.

The serial number says it is a 81, 610, but all the components match the 82, 614 brochure.

Nice job! That came out great and having seen one of these in person I know how nice that bronze color looks in person. Very nice.
