Picked up two bikes today. One is a modern 2003 Giant OCR3, off C/L. Typical quick scoop price.

The other was a beat up old 1970s Schwinn Continental. The best part of the Continental is that it came with a modern Shimano 105 hub, 700c front wheel. It came with the original front wheel as well. Typical garage sale rough project bike price. So the extra wheel with a good tire was a nice bonus.

My first ever catch of the day! I haven't even seen them in person yet because I had my dad pick them up. They're a little rough, but I think I can clean them up. Only $25 each! What do guys think?

i saw that OCR since i was anticipating going to Asheville tomorrow for a Fiat car show...good score. It would have been great for a friend who I'm looking out for a deal for, but she'll find her bike sooner or later.

Yeah, I noticed that too. I haven't seen the bikes in person, but I think it might have been the camera angle. If it is bent, I can always salvage components from it for the yellow le tour.

Here's the new ride I picked up today for $60 Canadian / $58 US / 440 S. African Rand -- what name do you like better for it: Goldmember or Fahza?

She's decked out with a full Shimano 600 groupset but I have no idea about the frame or this company other than I reckon it's Canadian. Google searches for "Le Circuit International" lead back to the ad for the bike, that's it. There's also a sticker on it for "Arlington Sports"

Any bikeophiles care to comment?

Hey CBBill, that looks like a 1974-5-0r 1976 LeTour. I had a '75. If i'm not having a brain fade, they offered 3 colors too. All english threads,so you could use an inch socket set on them. My local bikepusher, has $16.99 27" gumwalls. I bought my last pair,at KMart,which that store,dosen't carrry them anymore.Cheers, Chris.

Not sure, but that iteration of the Shimano 600 group is before the Arabesque version and is from the mid-70s. Pretty big frame (62cm?), but even if its too big, the components are well worth the for the price you paid.

I hope the rest of this week goes as well as this morning did, I had only been awake for about 10 min when there was a knock on my door ( I almost didn't answer ) and there was a guy looking to have some work done on a Centrurion. His neighbor told him that I work on bikes and he wanted to know if I could help him remove the crankset and chain so he could paint the frame black because he didn't like the color and then reassemble it for him. After about 10 min of me trying to talk him out of painting it black with spray paint I noticed that the seat tube looked a little long for a guy that stands maybe 5'7" and I told him that,well he said he would make it work and so I agreed to help him. Once we got it unloaded and went to my shop he spotted the Bianchi Europa I picked up earlier this season and asked me if I wanted to trade as the Bianchi was his size and almost ready to ride, well you know the answer to that was YES!

It is a 60cm Centurion Elite RS with full Shimano 600 drivetrain, Araya gold/bronze 700c wheels with matching Dia-Compe Royal brake set. I can't wait to put it back together I have everything here that I will need so no extra cost is needed to build this the way I want it and the best part was that it only cost me $50 and a little labor, that's what I paid for the Bianchi plus he gave me an old girls bike with a tank and built in headlight that work although the chrome is ruff on the rest of it.

Hey, he's a township cop I didn't swindle anybody LOL, Plus he couldn't reach the pedals even if I fixed it for him, he paid $0 for the Centurion BTW and just wanted a used road bike to see if he liked it without spending any cash on a new bike.The Bianchi was 54cm and he liked it I didn't even offer to show him any of the bikes I have it was just sitting there for all to see.What would you do tell him no. I am going to strip the Bianchi for him because he still wants it painted black and then reassemble it with new cables and tires so it is a good trade.

Well, I scooped a couple of nice bikes this evening off C/L, both my size. The first is a 1984 Trek 560, definitely needs some TLC, but a typical nice steel Trek, and that's what I made the trip for. Well, the seller also had a "1980s Roubaix." Turned out it actually was a 1995, with all Shimano 105 including STI. I am going to have to relook at the keeper fleet, one or both of these need to stay. The Fuji is a really pretty "Inca Blue". I'll take some pics when I get back home. I decided to continue on to the mountains.

Definitely worth it! Had a gaspipe ross show up on the local CL for $100 with a FULL 600 Arabesque group. Somebody beat me to it.
They 600 models over lapped a good bit. That bike is 78 or newer.
That style of derailleurs was 76-82
That bike has Arabesque brakes 78-84 (the standard 600 brake was no longer made after 77). That puts the bike 78-82.

Good call, Grim! The date code on the frame indicates the frame is '81. Yet to tear the components off but I'm looking forward to dating those badboys. Thanks for the help!

caught this one for the cost of a couple brake cables...cool bike; very 'American' in contrast with my English "English 3-Speeds"...with excellent patina and only a few years younger than I with a SA hub dated '72. Chain guard says 'speedster'. watchout

Is arabesque that valuable? Completed auctions on the bay says no if I remember correctly. There is a bike with 600 for sale locally, but somewhat overpriced. If anyone is into the components maybe I could take a gander... again.

They are interesting and not super common. They came out when Suntour was still king. I guess it was bit of a marketing ploy more then anything. They were top of the line and stood out with the ornate scroll work.
I do not think there is a huge jump in value but they are fun parts to have for a nicer vintage bike. I'd like to find a set of shifters and perhaps a FD to match the Rear Derailleur on my Raleigh but it would be hard to give up the Suntour Power shift it has.

Just picked up a very nice CL 1986 Schwinn Prelude. I have been looking for a Super Le Tour for some time but like this much better.
Need to clean and adjust and true the wheels a bit but otherwise it is quite fresh.
