Bikes: Too many Bicycles to list

I was able to pick up four bikes this past Sat and plan to turn over two of them to support the habit right away, the other two will have a home for a bit until I figure out exactly what I want to do to them. The first is a orange 21.5" GT Outpost my brother found and gave me, I really like the color and I have a black one just like it that is getting built as soon as my DB Topanga is done. I really dig the paint on this so I am going to do it up a bit by replacing the low end Suntour & Dia-Compe components with something a little higher in quality, the only part I know I am putting on it at this time is a NOS Suntour Roller Cam rear brake to replace the plastic Dia-Compe U brake that's on it.

The other 3 bikes I picked up from a lady a few blocks away from me that called the shop where I work looking to sell them, my boss had no interest in them but called me to see if I wanted them, which I did. All three were banana seat bikes, a 71 Schwinn Sting Ray Fair Lady in violet that is in good rider condition, I am going to do this up old school for my niece or wife to ride, it will go good with my built up 70's rat rod Columbia Play Bike. A 72 Schwinn Lil Chik in green also in good rider condition, this one I will service and flip, the last one is a yellow 3spd Murray Eliminator Mark I frame built up ( poorly I might add) with a bunch of Schwinn Sting Ray parts. I am going to pull most of the Schwinn parts off and replace them with parts I have around here that will work better, I believe the wheels and 42" sissy bar are original to the frame but I am keeping the sissy bar and replacing it with a newer 36" bar. I am also thinking about changing it over to a 5 speed as I have a Shimano 5 speed Click Shift that will fit the twin top tubes on this bike.

I haven't had much luck finding any large frames. I posted one a page back or so that was a really neat Giant Yukon (low end but a decent frame), but it was only 19". So I see this Schwinn Woodlands pop up on Kijiji. I didn't have my hopes up as it is pretty low end, but I go and see it anyway. All threaded eyelets for rack mounts, and the frame and paint were in great condition. Here in atlantic Canada, things are usually left out to rust, so dealing with rust is almost inevitable but this thing is pretty clean. Also the rear wheel is supper beefy, someone built a wheel for it with motor cycle spokes at some point in the past. I may not reuse it, but we'll see.

Anyway, back to my gangly arms. So this frame is a 21" maybe 21.5" st c-t, but the TT is 23" c-c! Weird geometry but it should fit my stubby legs and long arms perfect! (drive side crank arm is there, I just got trigger happy and removed it. Shimano 200GS, for the parts bin)

Looking forward to the build! I have mostly everything I need in the parts bin. Speaking of bins, on my way home from buying this (for $50 might I add) I found 2 of these put out to the curb. I inquired in the house, and they said to take whatever I wanted! So now I have a bin shelf thing for all my parts, one the size of the one in the picture, and one about half the width, for free! Even if the shelves don't work out, lots of plastic bins for storing cleaning etc.

Update: She's built, and in record time! Still might make some changes, but built enough for it's trail rides, to see if it's a keeper. Saddle has to go though...

I don't want to count my chickens before they're hatched, but I may soon have one of my two grail bikes. The one I have the opportunity to buy is the one I thought I'd never be able to afford. One of the two is a mid 70's blue Raleigh Professional. The other, which may be coming my way in the nezt week or so, is..... (I can hardly bring myelf to type the words)

A Masi Gran criterium in red..... Stunning condition, with a matching Silca pump, and dripping in Super Record...

There... I said it... The original owner even has almost identical fit to me. I got on, and the leg extension was a 1/2" +/- from being spot on.,,,,BD

It looks like this one but a little larger.... I can already hear the Barber of Seville overture playing in my head...

I just picked this up on wednesday from the original owner.
1991 Fiori Roma. $50.00
My wife's last name is Fiori so we were pretty excited to find this, but
unfortunately, at 56 cm it's to big for us.

Yeah, I spoke too soon.. dangitt. I had someone buying two bikes from me to finance the purchase of the Masi, and he completely misunderstood where I lived. Even though I mentioned two things that would have told him where I was. I mentioned the L'Auberge
casino, of which there aren't any of in TX(casinos)? I also started the ad with Houston native now living in Louisiana. He thought I lived in Lake Charles TX, somewhere out 288 from Houston(Southwest). After a dozen searches, I still cannot find the town he was talking about? So... I either have to deliver the bikes to him in Houston(240 mile round trip), or press on. Bummer...sigh.,,,,BD

Picked up an unusual Concorde tonight. Not sure what to do with this one. Most of the components are tricolor 600, with a DA seat post and headset. I am guessing this is a bonded aluminum frame.

Figured the value was there in the components. I'll put it in line on the bike queue. Currently, I have to get some mixtes ready to sell as I sold my last finished one.

I believe it is a 56cm. I haven't measured it as I was really just focused on the components.

Bikes: N + 1

This is a fun save...it came from a friend's mom where it was stored in a barn for a long time. During a conversation a few months ago, she learned that I'm into old road bikes, riding them, restoring them & all that...so as we were talking she said she had her first real road bike in their barn and she would never ride it again....and that it was a Schwinn Paramount that was really nice when it was new & whenever she took it out on group rides it got lots of compliments. Well, it will need some TLC to get compliments again, but it's gonna get it. A cursory measurement looks like it's got a 54cm seat tube & 55cm top tube. Dura-Ace hubs, Campy components except for DiaCompe levers, Cinelli bar & stem, missing the original seat post & no saddle. This should be fun to do & learn about. I don't know anything about these bikes...don't even know where to find a serial #...

If you know any 20 somethings that live in big rental houses in college towns with tons of rooms and people constantly coming and going, see if it's OK to dig around in the basement. Basements/backyards/storage areas at houses with lots of young people just seem to grow bikes. Most of the time the original owners are long gone and nobody even remembers who they belonged to.

Glen you know the yellow ones not a Schwinn. You said Columbia, the Ross Apollo had a similar frame, but had both wheels the same size. Something the Raleigh Chopper never offered on any Chopper. Nice old steel, how many were thrown out or,, just beat to death,,etc.?

Well, I picked up a strange one this afternoon. It was part of a "take the entire pile, or take nothing" deal. This was the "winner" of the bunch.

Anyway, it has a Viscount head tube decal, very suspect. Steel frame and steel fork. No bottle braze ons, so its an older frame. Components? What a frankenbike: Cinelli stem, Suntour DT shifters, Suntour 7 FD, Campy NR RD, Campy headset, Campy cable clamps on TT, nice Avocet saddle, tricolor crankset (WTF?), Campy hubs and skewers, rear rim concave Weinmann (I needed one to match an orphan front concave I have), 700c wheel size, 600 freewheel, Sakae seat post, Schwinn approved calipers, Shimano aero levers.

Looks a lot like a Viscount to me, any close up of the seat cluster? Especially where the seat stays meet.

The Viscount I just did before and after,

Seat cluster,

You do know about the fork right? Even if it's a third revision (as mine is) I've been advised repeatedly not to ride them with the alloy fork.

Is the bottom bracket threaded now? If so it's a plus for maintenance although when I took mine apart I found one bearing was still perfect and silky smooth and only the left side bearing felt a tiny bit rough apparently due to moisture from storage so I replaced both but if I found another and the bearings felt smooth I wouldn't even consider pulling the bottom bracket apart.

My sons is on it's original 1974 wheel bearings which are also sealed and pressed and his are the smoothest wheel bearings I've ever seen.

That is a pretty bike, too bad it's been painted.

OP mentioned that it's a steel fork. If it passes the magnet test, it probably doesn't need replacing.

Yup, just noticed that. It just looks so similar to the original that I didn't even think twice about it.
