I came across a 1990/1991 Schwinn Crisscross for $20 a few weeks ago from a guy who was cleaning out the garage prior to a divorce settlement. It was dirty and had a bit of surface rust on the bright parts, a broken rear derailleur, a mangled head badge, and normal signs of wear. Iowegian graciously sent me a replacement RD and 3speedslow sent a head badge. There are no "before pix" because other than general clean-up and bearing maintenance, nothing much was needed. The FD cage was bent, but I sort of have that back in shape (well nearly).
Anyway, it is back together and I've been riding it around the neighborhood (with pockets full of tools) on test rides. I had some chain jump in the 2 smallest rear cogs due to a stiff link in the old chain. That worked out over time, but I'm replacing the chain anyway. I put riser bars and friction shifters on it because I like them. It's almost ready to go. I'll probably drop the seat and stem a bit and let my wife have a try.
Oh, I slapped a pair of fenders on it due to wet roads - that's why there are spikey fender stays.

Fuji Sport 10 off craigslist for 50 bucks. Got it home before realizing the front derailleur was sheared in half and the rear one was bent. Gonna become my fixed communter.

Scrap guy came down the alley with this sticking out of the back. I traded a couple junk walmart frames and some other scrap metal. 1976 Schwinn suburban, needed tires and cables, everything else cleaned up pretty nice.

Just emailed on a two hour old 1988 Schwinn Circuit ad for $75. Looks all original, just needs a little paint repair from small rust spots I recently found a duplicolor that matched like factory, and I have experience with fixing rust spots on bikes LOTS and LOTS of experience

Picked up this Novara Randonee for $35 a few days ago. Going to fix it up for my girlfriend so we can ride together. Needs new cables and pads. There's a small ding in the top tube and a ding on the rim on the rear wheel. Has nice canti brakes (better than the brakes on my Fuji Touring Series III) and Shimano Deerhead FD & RD. Hopefully the g/f will be pleased when I'm done messing with it.

This is the story of the one that got away. I went to the dump today, passed the metal pile on my way up to public dumping area. I saw some bikes so I made it a point have some metal to throw into the scrap pile so I could stop at the metal pile.(side note: I am a scrapper so there's ALWAYS metal in my truck. However rarely do I ever leave it at the dump unless its worth it). Stoped threw out the metal grabbed 3 bikes. 2 were tangled up so in the trailer they went. The 3rd went into the truck bed. I scaled out paid the lady, drove off property. I stoped to check out the bikes closer, the one in the bed was a chopper style bike, then went to the trailer....... Low and behold the bikes were not there
. Found out they fell out of the back of the trailer. One was a Wal-Mart schwinn the other was a cannondale bud light promo bike:-(.

Picked up this Univega Specialissima yesterday, my second of this model this year, same size too. I've never seen one prior to this year. Wild.
The good: it came with a nice Brooks Pro saddle, leather bar wrap, Suntour bar cons. Paint is pretty decent, good tires, original rear rack.
The bad: its missing the original Cyclone GT RD

Bicycle Repair Man !!!
The neighbours were having a garage sale and had some BSO's selling for $30 - $40 but this Trek 930 was headed for the trash... the fork has been tweaked a little but replacing that will not be hard and the parts are all in rather good condition.

great bikes, very versatile.. can do pretty much anything with them and they will last longer than you... except maybe the forks of course

I rescued a bike today from a life of poor service and decline. I drove an hour in heavy rain, but the price was really low. It's a 74'ish Atala Grand Prix in pretty rough but salvageable shape. I really didn't need another bike project, but this was just interesting enough and I've been intrigued by slacker angle bikes with crazy fork rake lately, it has chromed lugs to boot! It's surprisingly light for a lower end gas pipe bike. The bike has low end Campy Valentino derailleurs, down tube shifters, and Nuovo Tipo high flange hubs with original skewers laced to alloy rims. I'm thinking keeping it as original as possible and just cleaning, polishing, regreasing, etc.

^Lots to like on that Atala. Chrome socks front and rear, chrome lugs, is it really a "low end" bike? Love those Tipo hi-flange hubs.

Thanks, lets just say that I'm pretty sure anyone who would be looking to purchase a bike could've afforded this one. I'm no bike snob by any means, I'm happily riding my newly resto-modded Peugeot U08 and don't really own any "grail" bikes (not my thing). That being said, the bike is what it is, a boom era lower/mid level Italian with lots of style and hopefully a Cadillac ride. I'm really psyched to have it and am planning on putting the time and money that it needs into it to preserve it's coolness. It needs quite a bit of love as it seems it's never received the maintenance that it should have. Hopefully I'll be able to work some magic without too much additional expense.

Spotted this Trek Tri series at a local SA. It was at least 20 feet off the floor. 531c tubing, Shimano 600' garage queen condition.
