What shifters came on the bike? Did you have to change out the bolt to the French one you have because of the threading?

Also, I was wondering if anyone could give me some info on this rear derailleur. It's Shimano RS, which apparently wasn't released until 1981, so I'm assuming it's not original. Is it a decent derailleur?

Looks like one of the many variations on the Shimano TY20 RD, a long-lived, unglamorous, dependable workhorse that functions quite well. My guess is it dates your bike to the early 80's, as really cheap bikes had a serious 70's hangover around that time. I could be wrong, though.

The rack looks like a basic Pletscher knockoff; a copy of a very flimsy old rack, IMHO. I've broken three of them over the years without half trying. :(

I Recognize the logo,It was a cheaper bike parts company parts that you would find at Walmart ..etc. I believe it started with Cycle ____ and i cant remember the rest.

^^^Cyclepro perhaps? That's what sprung to my mind as well. I've had good experience with the Pletscher racks, I use panniers on one on my commuter and it's hauled a lot of heavy stuff and survived quite a bit of abuse.

I picked up this '89 Schwinn 564 about a week ago. I am just about done with the overhaul but it was light out so I thought I would get a picture of it. I still need to hook up the shifters. The rear wheel was missing a spoke nipple and was about 3 inches out of true. I fixed that issue. Also, these bikes had quill seatposts and of course it had a crack in it. I built a replacement. I have less than $40 into the bike.

This one was on Long Island, and it involved a boat ride. I don't have pictures yet, but the bike is pretty rough. The chrome fork tips have quite a bit of rust, and the paint just above the tips is starting to rust. I did take some time when I got home to take the pedals off and rebuild them. Very odd, but they work fine now. The Bianchi was in New Jersey, and it's in very nice shape under the dirt. That one will be a very quick and straightforward rebuild. It's a 20" frame, too small for me. (maybe)

I went and looked at this exact bike! Decided I didn't want to take on another project at the moment, being in the middle of a few already. @vintagerando, where in CT are you located? And was that seatpost stuck after all? ;)

Three legged 1974 Raleigh International, front right hoof is gone. I did check for 650b tire size, a bit too tight for 42's, but 38's could definitely work.

Atala, unknown vintage. Haven't checked threading, seatpost size, etc. Some hipster fixie idjit hacked the derailleur hanger off. Fully chromed, but unpolished under the paint. I like the beausage of this one. It's missing some chunks of paint here and there, but no rust. If I braze a hanger back on, the chrome takes a hit there. Maybe an IGH in it's future.

Both would be worth a lot more than what I paid for them without the frame damage. Both have nice, shiny chrome, 8 out of 10 on the gugie scale. The International has to be fixed. I've done that job before. The Atala could be fixed, or should I say, un-fixed? In both cases the chrome would be compromised.

"Saved" this 1993 Stumpjumper FS yesterday. This has got to be one of the most thoroughly hard-ridden bikes I've ever seen. The chainrings and sprockets are so worn, they can barely hold the chain! Unfortunately, the frame is trashed...one chainstay is totally rusted through. But the Deore LX/XT component group is going strong! Worth the price of admission ;)

Was hunting for a stem for another build and grabbed this from the back yard junk pile at a local tag sale. Frame is toast. Stem was a .833 Gran Compe and not useable for my project. Oh well. $7 for some decent SunTour and Sugino. Already disassembled, derailers cleaned up, and boxed for future use. The V GT Luxe is very nice. SunTour V GT Luxe derailleur (1500)

I even pulled the BB -- not much wear at all, but plenty of rust that had rained down on it from the disintegrating tubes. This was ridden lightly, put up wet, and then left to rust by someone who picked it up at auction.

Long story short: my parents both bought Atalas in 1973 to ride around Martha's Vineyard to have a proper honeymoon that they could not when they married in '72. I rode both around when I was a teen, and managed to get my father's bike stolen. Years later, I built one up as a 5sp IGH for him. Here it is:
This one is a '73, I think. They had this awesome 70/70 geo that taught me to love riding long distance in comfort. Yours is from earlier, I think, and seems to have a steeper HT.

A friend offered this to me a couple of weeks ago, and we talked about a trade, then out of the blue he drops the price to $75. The cranks are worth that, IMHO. I couldn't let it disappear. Love the frame touches. Long lugs, wraparound seat stays, black/silver VGT Luxe derailleurs, Sugino Mighty cranks, Dia Compe brakes. I heard the decals were prone to disappearing, and it appears so. I can see where they "were", a little. Can't wait til it's cleaned up, new light blue cotton wrap, and some Pasela's. I believe it's a Competition model, judging by the specs. Nishiki of course. Possibly a 74-79 model?,,,,BD

I did a 5 hour round trip to pick up this Kuwahara Cougar MTB today. It took a year to finally buy this, when the ad first appeared it seems all of my emails were going to a spam folder. The ad came down, and I assumed the bike had sold. Then what daya know! The ad reappears one year later and I was finally able to get ahold of him. It has Ishiwata triple butted tubes, tange fork, and all the braze-ons you could ask for. It's rough, to the point of a repaint. And if I'm going to repaint, I will have rear cantilever posts added to get rid of the under chainstay roller cam brake. There is a crack where the seatstays join the seat tube, but I will get that fixed when I add the cantilever posts. Converting this into a tourer with Dave Scott AT4 bars.

Forgot the shot of the rear derailleur. This is the first black/silver VGT I've ever seen. Pretty cool, it reminds me some of the Dura Ace of the same time period.,,,,BD

@Bikedued I think that is an international? Maybe not, but I have the same / similar bike -- bought for $60 in lascauxcaveman's neck of the woods and still there in storage.

No turkey levers on mine either. I am fairly sure the top tube says Competition in the faded paint shadow. I will look closer at it tonight.,,,,BD

edit... Well, the ghost paint fade decal on the top tube, definitely has a round first letter, and the 3rd or 4th letter has a tail on it. International has no tailed letters in it, so most likely a Competition.. Looks like this, only longer lugs, and no decal.
