Nice catch. But since you already have one, you should trade it for my Raleigh Elkhorn Mountain Tour when i'm down in PDX this weekend :)http://www.zoominto.com/zoomapi/ZoomButt.gif

You may know this already, but those old trigger shifters can usually be rehabilitated by hosing them out with WD40. Takes some work is all.

I can't stop staring at the saddle. On backwards. My brain hurts. ;)

Thanks LCM! The guy I bought it from suggested PB Blaster, but WD 40 sounds like a more friendly solution.

Ahh, I was tempted by your Elkhorn when I saw it come up in the for sale thread! If I wasn't at N+2 (according to my long-suffering spouse) I would have been talking to you about buying it as it's my size. But can't give up my new 1000.....

Carb cleaner until they work, then tri flow. They still may act up on cold days, but keep it indoors and it should work fine all Winter.,,,,BD

http://i1115.photobucket.com/albums/...psb9tkijin.jpg 83 trek 520? Advertised as 500 but has triple crank. Picked this up while on vac in NC. been able to take it out on a couple short local rides. Going to need a work when I get home next week. Rigida rims spin true. Really cool for me to have Reynolds sticker in my stable. http://i1115.photobucket.com/albums/...psudqbgzzg.jpghttp://i1115.photobucket.com/albums/...pszp6rn8d1.jpg

Bikedued 06-10-16 05:42 AM

Maybe a future catch, if they ever come down from the clouds. They posted it last week for $300, and I emailed. Zero response. Good, bad, or ugly. They post it again this week for $20 less. If they get below $200 I will consider it, actually around $100-$125 would get me to buy it. I know it's nothing special, but you don't see these too often, especially in this condition. I just like them, since they have that Professional style blue paint, bar ends, etc. I found one 7-8 years ago at the flea market, but it was a 27 inch frame. Gigantic in other words. Playing the wait and watch game for now. Any of you Houston guys know this person?,,,,BD

Catch of last week more like, early 70s Schwinn Super Sport. $40 and even came with a set of red label Arayas. Weird mix of components but the best part is the 3 piece crank and it fits my wife (French fit) pretty well. I'm happy :)

Campus green too. You hardly ever see them that color. I usually only see opaque blue or yellow.,,,,BD

I picked up this Benotto Modelo 2000 recently for $75. It was a real mix of components (all pretty nice). I gave it an overhaul and put Shimano 105 on it which I had. It is going to my daughter. BTW, there are no cracks near the bottom bracket.

yeah, I bet she was jumping up and down with joy and glee, like mine does whenever I find another bike...

No matter how good a bike score is, I've learned it's best to hide the kitchen knives before you bring the bike home.

OK, I know it's a lousy VARSITY............. but it looked so lonely I couldn't help myself. Bought it cheap from the original owner's son, it has some battle scars but everything works great except the brakes. OLD rock hard brake pads on steel rims, well, you know. :twitchy: Built November of 1974, it's one size too big but I can ride it, I just wish the "dance floor" was a little bigger. ;) Tires don't match but both are in good shape and the rear is a fairly new Bontrager that still has the mold flash down the center. The fenders are in excellent condition, if I don't keep this one I will be keeping the fenders.

I got a Varsity for my 9th birthday in '73, since I'd outgrown my 20" Royce Union in just a few years. Outgrew the Varsity pretty quickly, too, if I remember right. I was something of a mutant growing up. That Varsity took me a lot of places.

wait till you do take them off and find out where 5 lbs of the bike weight comes from. They are nice though, I have a pair saved up in the rafters. Why I have no idea. They are sized to the frame I believe.

Make's Mini look Maxi. Just got this tonight for a friend's 1 year old, who has been walking already for 2 months. Nice for a Jackson portrait.
