Scooped up this '88 Peugeot to refurb for the GF..
Full Shimano 105, Reynolds 501 frame, Simplex drops. Will be her first roadie, so I'll build it up with some modern 7spd and new wheels, as she won't like the downtube. and, we'll both have a steel steed made in our birth years (I have an '89 Circuit) http://i1380.photobucket.com/albums/...psjglwm0fh.jpg http://i1380.photobucket.com/albums/...ps0jtoqejt.jpg |

Here's a "Saved from the dump!" A craigslist ad appears late Sunday, "BIKE $30", so it's a PUCH Pathfinder with stamped dropouts, stem shifters, High Ten decal, steel rims, and a custom painted rear triangle, probably by some creative child. A bike I would normally pass on. But the "2nd bike is free" bike looked more interesting.
https://scontent-atl3-1.xx.fbcdn.net...84026485_o.jpg So, I reply, 'I'll come and get them right now' figuring worse case, I'm getting a few parts for 30.00. I have the junk man bike gene if you haven't figured that out by now. So, I get up there just before dark and three very matronly ladies are having an estate sale and offer me yet a third bike for an additional $5, and can't get me out of there fast enough (I went to the car to get another $5 and turned around and they were each standing behind me holding one of the bikes like they were gonna throw them in my trunk and say "see ya!" So...the third add on bike is a Le tour lux that cleaned up very nicely. BUT, the diamond in the dumpster, was the PUCH Force II which measures 55x55 CC which is what I am professionally fitted to. I've really just cleaned off the "dried sewer muck" looking stuff and not really rebuilt it yet. https://scontent-atl3-1.xx.fbcdn.net...61918000_o.jpg This is really what I love about this hobby. You just never know what will turn up! |
Saved from 1-800 got junk truck.

Recued this beauty last week. On its way to be recycled. Couldn't believe it. Trying to figure out details about it. Started a post in Vintage bicycles.
Happy guy right now. |

My catch of the day is $200 cash. Sold the Team Miyata fixed gear. The best part was the guy was super enthused about it, so I know it went to a good home.,,,,BD

Rescued from the metal recycling bin. A 1966 Ladies Raleigh Sports 3 speed that will be used by my kid who starts college in the city next week. Hoping to keep it ugly enough to prevent being stolen.
Cleaned, changed cables, and wrapped loose cables in electrical tape. Need to change the brake pads too. http://www.bikeforums.net/attachment...1&d=1472345706 |

I think it was probably a 1984? Mountech derailleurs and no tubing sticker. I'm furiously trying to clean up and move on a heap of old bikes and that one has already moved on!

Nice find! I found one at the curb on trash day next to a supercan. Tied up traffic to retrieve it before the truck got to it first. The things people throw away.

Super...of Course
I got a "bonus" bike when going to buy a Fuji S12-S from a craigslist seller recently. He says, "You fix up old bikes? How about this one here?" I snagged it for $1 extra (and as it turned out, there was a dollar in the saddlebag of the Fuji :thumb:)
Crazy tall frame...but I plan on fixin' her up anyway. Looks 100% original down to the Raleigh branded tires. Dynamo and headlamp are interesting. Can these old things be revived? The bike is so filthy, I'm almost loath to touch it. It's like a museum piece. https://s15.postimg.org/l7p513ziz/IMG_0404.jpghttps://s15.postimg.org/qgorcq7bv/IMG_0412.jpg |
Wow. That Raleigh is loaded with bits. I dig it.

^ "I'd buy that for a dollar."
It needs a complete teardown, but even if the frame is toast (Which it's probably isn't), theres some scrappage value or at least a lot of cool stuff for the parts bin :) |
Exceptionally nice score if those are Blumels fenders in good condition.

Saved from SF fixter hell $20 but not really a deal because I'll spend hundreds on it for sure ; )
Tip of taper sheared off and is stuck in crank. Never seen this. Must have way over tightened bc I think taper is correct. Miyata 914 http://i1281.photobucket.com/albums/...spli8dyuf.jpeg |
