Thanks, hehe. You might notice my budget hoods though, lol. They have turkey lever holes. And imagine my surprise, that 80's non aero Dia Compe hoods, are a near EXACT fit for 600EX levers!!
I have a set of skinwall 25c Tourguards on the way as we speak, and plan to get some KoolStops on it ASAP. Although the stock shoes can lock up the rear wheel quickly enough to scare the crap
out of me, lol! I'm also planning to install a Cartridge BB in it.,,,,BD

Riding my bike down the alley I saw this old girl leaning up against the garbage bins. The head badge says its a Ranger, maybe a Schwinn Ranger? It was complete with a generator headlight, tail light and a Wright saddle. If the Wright saddle is original it was not a top of the line bike, would have been a Brooks then. Sadly the tires almost disentegrated when I moved it, will cost a small fortune for 28 inch tires in these parts! Anyone know from the pic if it is a Schwinn?

Probably a mead ranger? Thats an odd find nevertheless, that bike has gotta be from the 20s/'30s

Order them from Flying Pigeon L.A. I got Schwalbe Delta Cruisers there for my DL-1. They come in creme color which would look stunning on that bike.

Thanks for your input folks, much appreciated. When I started looking for the make of my bike I couldn't believe how many out there had a "Ranger" model, Schwinn, Huffy,CCM, etc, but Mead never crossed my mind. I ruled out CCM because I have a 40's CCM Rambler and CCM is stamped out in the chainring. Now the hunt begins for a Mead chainguard, tires and period correct handle grips. I'll post another pic after shes rebuilt :)

It has CMC rims, 28" x 1.?, Brake levers are reversed from US standard?(rear on left), Shimano EM thumb shifters and RD, Thunderbird FD, one piece cranks :(, 18 speeds, sweet triangular handlebars (I think anyhow) I believe it was painted over, some red shows through the black

You might also want to get with The Classic and Antique Bicycle Exchange as well. They might be able to find that chain guard.

Judging by the handlebars, it would be an early '80's Japanese production mountain bike. I got nothing beyond that. Rivendell just reintroduced those bars for their Bombadil model.

Just got a chance to tinker on this one.

Little lead in on how I came to get this one. One of the guys I work with is legend in the stuff he finds along the side of the road. One of the most honest guys you will ever meet. Over the 16 years I have known him he has picked up suit cases full of tools along the road. He found a Big screen TV once in the box. The screen has a crack on one corner and a little damage to the housing but a buddy that use to be a TV Repair guy got the thing up and working.
Another find was a Jacuzzi bath tub. Again new in box. Box saved it from total destruction. What damage it had was hid when it was installed.

Found a tool box with 3 digital Micrometers and a analog micrometer. The Digitalis list for over $650 each.

So Friday at 3:30 he calls me and asks if I am still at the office that he has something for me.

Pulls up with a 95 Trek 850 in the back of the truck. He found it on the side of I75 still attached to a Thule rack. The bike has a bald spot on the back tire where it looks like it was being dragged sideways down the road before it fell off. We think it may have been hanging on the back of a RV. The bike is severly neglected and been in the weather for years. The Alvino thumb shifters didn't shift. It was stuck in third on the rear. Took the shifters apart last night and got them working. Replaced the FD cable and now it it fully operational. Still need to go through the hubs, they feel dry as does the free hub. Has some half rotten off brand tires that I swear are full of cement on it.. No reason other then those tires that the bike should weigh what it does. Take it Mtbing this weekend with some used knobies I have before I flip it.

He got me for $25. I turned around and sold the rack and a cheap frame pump that was on the bike to one of the other guys at work for $10 before I got out of the parkign lot. :lol:

Believe it or not, the current issue of the APA (American Psychological Association) Monitor has an article on whether a recent trend towards thrift and frugality will continue after the economy and credit availability improves. According to the article, Americans have been less wastefull lately, with a 30% reduction in trash heading for land fills. I still was able to find a nearly new dehumidifier in perfect working condition on bulk pick-up day! Was actually going to buy one new before I found it! Cruisin' around on bulk pick-up day in the "high rent districts" to me beats the h**l out of shopping in the mall. It's free! Easy return policy! Just put it back on the curb the following week. You help the environment, conserve resources, and can donate it to charity and therby help others. Plus, it's really chic today to have cool stuff you picked up from junk piles. NYC antique dealers supposedly were known to hit certain neighborhoods in the city on a regular basis. I see women picking up wicker furniture, lamps, and all kinds of stuff all the time. I have know a few who brag about finding kids' toys, small pieces of furniture (that they've refinished), etc. So, it isn't just a "guy thing". Also, how many members of church congregations scour the streets on bulk day for things to sell at their church rummage sales? I know of one congregation where there is a group of older women who do very well in some of the better neighborhoods...and they live in some really nice neighborhoods themselves!

Just got an awesome score...picking it up on Sunday for $150.

Here's my 1970's colnago super. I bought it with a drop out crushed and the paint stripped for $70. I restored it not quite back to original as I may want to actually race it, however it is all Campy. I powdercoated it and bought new decals. It has Chorus Rear and Front derailleurs, Record chain, Veloce shifters, cassette, and brakes, Campy Crank and Headset (no markings so not sure which group), and Mavic CXP-22 wheels for right now. I think I'm buying a rear Shamal and a front Fir to replace the wheelset. Selle Italia Flite saddle. Cinelli bars and stem, Bianchi seat post.
