Ivandarken, that was very entertaining. I wish I could write as well as you do.

You guys have it good. I went to every Pawn shop and Thrift store locally to me today trying to find a good deal on a vintage road bike. The only decent bike I found out of the dozen places I stopped was a Koyoto (sp?) with Suntour components. It was in good enough shape, but they wanted $50 for it...
Maybe its the market around here or something but all the bikes I found were fairly expensive, even the dept store ones. Shame. |
What's wrong with $50 even if it needs a little work?

Cheers to all,
I've just bought something that I had my eyes on since forever. It's a NOS Mavic bottom bracket that I will install on my favorite frame (french threaded Gitane from the 80's). This BB is held in place by two lockrings and it's fully adjustable and can be used with any type of bottom bracket lug. It's also supposed to be very high quality and to last a lifetime. You can rebuild it easily with two standard bearings. I'm anxious to see how it will hold up on my bike. http://sindarin.free.fr/bike/mavic_a.jpg http://sindarin.free.fr/bike/mavic_b.jpg |

I've been lucky to find anything worth while for less than $100 'round here. |
Here are two of my previous finds all fixed up, polished up and ready for the local CL. 84' Trek 520 and 69' Raleigh Super Course Mixte:

Finally got around to taking some pictures of those preludes i picked up a while back. Here are some shots of the black one.

Seems to be my Italian summer (hope that didn't curse it). So far: Celeste Campione d'Italia, early 70s Frejus with Campy Nuovo Record, and this one: Recentish Bianchi Campione, tigged steel, Italian made, mix of Campy Veloce and Mirage (9 speed). $275. Figured I'd switch over the group and swap the frame. Hardly ridden, so methinks good buy.

"I don't really need another bike...but its fun to find good deals!" Could we possibly make this into the official C&V motto, and put it on T-Shirts and coffee mugs? :) |
Has the internet given way to this hobby? There are so many of us doing the same thing! I didn't know anyone who did this years ago. In fact, I didn't know anyone who did it recently!

This was out for the trash men on a street where a friend gave me the heads up.
and it just so happens a buddy gave me a classic Books vinyl saddle the day before. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2566/...fa0d6783_b.jpg Wait until you see her all gussied up! |

It is mint and cost $10 I couldn't help myself. Dunno what I'll do with it... |
Hopefully now that the price of scrap has gone down, people in my town can stop destroying bikes

This one got Cyclone derailleurs, front and rear. Also, new bar tape, chain, and cables. I upgraded the brakes to RX100 dual pivots, added a Shimano 600 Tricolor crank (with a little polish action ;) ) and voila! |
