picked up a Univega Gran Rally today.. thing looks like it's been ridden less than 1 mile... almost flawless except some scratches on the fork that look more like "shop wear". Original Univega branded tires are in great condition.. even the hoods look brand new I'll post more pics later

Tange db tubes, All Shimano 600 EX - 6207 down to the headset and BB

just wish it were in my size!

Same experience with the same bike. Beautiful ride, just too small. Made a nice chunk on a flip though.

Yeah, I knew before I bought it that it was way too small, but it wasn't until I actually saw it in person that I was sad it wasn't in my size.. maybe it's a good thing though.. I would be afraid to ride it! It's definitely wallhanger status

Found this stuff at a sale this weekend:

(Not pictured - bunch of Park, VAR, Hozan, and machinist hand tools)

NOS Deore XT 7 speed black 36h hubs, bottom bracket, chain, cassette, and Avocet 40 computer.

Mid 80s Bicycle Rider magazines, 1986 Performance catalog, 1981 Reynolds catalog and specs, The magazines have some interesting articles and ads.

I was most excited about the black XT hubs until I was digging through a box of books and found a 1989 Merlin catalog and 1991 Merlin spec sheet. Really stoked about finding the catalog to go with my Merlin).

Everything red on this bike, and a stem(not shown) for $13 at the flea market. It was crowded as hell, and I was on my way out, when I spotted a table of bike parts. These were the jewels in the pile. Dia Compe calipers, and Sugino Super Maxy BMX cranks, and a GT seatpost clamp. Not a bad score, and decent condition. It should get my odd CW beast back on the road, or trail.,,,,BD

Wow, that was a steal. Is that set up as a 64'er, or is the angle of the photo making it look like the front wheel is smaller?

Cool! I'm guessing these guys would love a scan of the spec sheet: https://www.retrobike.co.uk/gallery2/...in/Catalogues/

I love this thread! I have saved two bikes from trash piles many years ago, but have not started to work on them until recently. Will post pics when I can.

By the way, I'll also be happy to take any good steel bikes off of anyone's hands.. or trash piles. Forget the dump, keep them on the road!

That's the angle of the frame!? This is as far as I know, some custom or prototype. Super thin tubing, even the BB shell is thin. Campy drops welded to plates. No one else seems to know what it is, even a few vintage CW groups don't have a clue? It will only fit a 1.75 tire in the rear, and the original fork was missing. To answer your question, the top tube angles DOWN towards the front. Weirdest thing I've ever seen!,,,,BD

Here's a true side view... Weird eh?

Remnants of a VDC (Voris Dixon) sticker. I still have no clue if his shop built it, or someone acquired it and stuck it on. You can also see the thin walled BB shell.

Got this combo yesterday. I had a rough but complete Trek 220 on Craigs list. It was far to small for me but I was going to strip it and up=grade an old MB. Posted it for $80 until I got around to stripping it and a guy called to see if it would fit his Grand Daughter. Well he came out with this bike and carrier , looked at the trek and said, "I will trade the carrier and the bike for your Trek. I gulped and said---Yes and away he went with the Trek in his trunk. Some days are better than others, The Probe which I know all about is a 56CM and absolutely perfect with all the correct original parts except for a new set of tires. It will be a rider and will fit right in the rack between the Paramounts. Regards, Folsomjack

That's a bar/saddle swap from being a really nice gravel grinder. I would drop bar that bike in a second. My red C'dale is becoming a touring too, if I can ever find the time to work on anything besides sleep, and laundry.,,,,BD

It looked as if the guy I bought it from was not really in to bicycles but more into flipping things he thinks he could turn a buck on. So I figured I saved it and gave it new life!

Thank you 69tr6r, After doing some research the 1993 rockhopper comp was about the best as far as components being full Deore LX. But being a thumbie guy I put DeoreXT thumbies and DeoreDX hubs to Mavic xc717 rims

Found this a few days ago. 1990-ish Cannondale Black Lightning frame that's been heavily upgraded. Shimano Ultegra components all the way around including Ultegra flight deck shifters. Someone in a past life invested some major bucks to get this bike light as a feather... then let it sit in a garage for 20 years. Picture shows it as found. It will need a thorough going over when the weather warms up. A tad tall for me... but for $20 I'm not complaining.

You think it's light now, wait till you take those pedals off.. nice score btw

Edit: I can't quite tell in the pic but it looks like those might be the Ultegra shifter name plates that are crazy hard to find. The last new set I saw on ebay went for close to $70 if I remember right.

Think how much less drag there would be if the brake cables were under the bar tape...

I appreciate the comments and great finding fellow enthusiasts who really appreciate such a find. My "non cycling" family and friends think I'm halfway insane for hauling such stuff home... but it's who I am and what I do.

I got lucky last year and picked up a 1989 Bianchi Premio for $30 in similar shape needing a good tune and cleanup. I've always dreamed of finding a Cannondale aluminum road bike cheap. I never dreamed of finding one outfitted so well for next to nothing.

All of the cables are going under new bar wrap at first opportunity. I was thinking about keeping the first generation Look pedals on the bike. Bad idea?

Anyone know what something like this might be worth with the Ultegra upgrades? I hate to sell it... but it is a tad big for me (60cm I believe) and would be hard to justify keeping if it really has some serious value.
