It is very cool, with the gold coloring and etched detailing and it is in great shape. 700c wheel compatible Steering tube is 1" in diameter Let me know if you have any questions. PayPal only, I will ship the same day I receive payment. Thanks!"

Can anyone tell me more about this?

Did Fuji make a "Racer"? I've looked through some old catalogs and can't find anything.

Sorry, I thought that's what it was for. But thank you for taking the time to point it out to me in the public forum. I hope it made you feel all special inside.

Not exactly. a.) This thing's been on for-EVER; it wasn't—until a couple of months ago—that this was id'd as a Fuji; b.) I think someone around the same time properly id'd this as a Newest. It's a "racy" bike if you look it up the geometry in a catalog, but not a "Racer." Still, not a bad bike. Maybe a bit overpriced, but I've seen worse go for more. Probably a case of the listing getting much too tired.

not on CL, not on eBay, but for these you have to go in person to the Salvation Army thrift store on Geary Blvd. (3rd ave.) in San Francisco:
1. Bridgestone RB1 with a Zunow fork, about 57.5cm, black and white paint, gray Mavic open pros on black-center HI-E hubs, and a hodge-podge of Shimano stuff: 105 cranks, DuraAce RD, 105 brakes, Salsa stem...a LOT of surface rust and corrosion/dirt, but no damage that I saw...the stark reality of thrift pricing in SF:
$300
2. Vitus 959 with pearl white tubes and alloy "lugs", a mix of Campy Veloce (brifters), brakes, hubs, RD but with a DA crank and FD (strange)...also a short Salsa stem, and it's a 47cm (may have been a husband/wife donation), much less rust/dirt than the RB-1, but still needs some love before riding...:twitchy:the sticker shock:
$450:twitchy:
Those of you who live where thrifts still charge $10-$25 for a bike: count your blessings (and watch out, these prices may be coming your way).
The bikes have been there for a couple days, and aren't flying out the door at these prices.

It's a Newest but not an '81. Looks like pre '76 to me. In my CL market that wouldn't have lasted long at that price. Lot's of Fuji's lovers around her.

'76 Motobecane Grand Touring mixte frameset (seller has it listed as "early '80s"), currently at $223 and still hasn't reached the reserve price.

I bought the same bike a year or two ago on eBay, complete, for ~$150. :D

Now it really makes my day-- $300 for the frameset, and 2.5 days to go on the auction. Makes that $150 I paid for the same bike (complete bike, not frameset) 2 years ago seem like a steal of a deal.

Of course, $300 is madness...

Yeah, I was watching that one & wondering why it went so high.

It's marketed well, for one thing. And the buyers are motivated. Not sure exactly WHY they're motivated-- motivated by the good marketing? Motivated because they want a cromo mixte so bad they'll pay these prices? Motivated to replace the bike of their youth? Motivated by a desire to match their diamond-frame Moto?

Or will the price of C&V bikes just keep going up, now that they've been "discovered"?

Whatever it is, a few people want it bad enough to bid it up...
