I actually understand why some people choose to build a "fixie" out of a sweet vintage bike :o but I dont know why they would make it look like a bag of Skittles!?

That is truly eye-popping, but not in a good way.

Having done both, I can say that Crappy old 10-speeds make better fixies. All the good ones I have coverted back.

I feel sorry for the bike, but not so much for the cat.

Just leave the puppies alone!

. . . . . . . then you aren't going to want to read my posting when I reopen my Centurion thread from last month with the final result of what became of that Accordo frame.

And my two cats, Linus and Dixie, spent every evening with me in the shop while I was building and changing parts over. I think I finished the final modifications tonight, will give it a good ride Saturday to see how I like it - then off to the powder coater.

edit: it also appears to be an extra-long Topline crank, so pretty much guarantees the owner will be scraping off the cheap Wellgo pedals at the rate of one pair per week...genius!

I like fixed and I hate cats, so I guess I will have to build another one. But, I am little more subdued than this guy. I just take off the components, shorten the chain and correct the chainline. Oh, and get a fixed or a flip flop hub.

I've been thinking about building a new one. I want one with braze-ons for a rack so I can more easily ride it to work. And probably a little lower gearing, since yesterday when I turned onto the bridge over the Rocky River, I had a head wind that just about stopped me. I think lower gearing would be good for windy days.

The trouble is finding the right frame. I need one with rack braze-ons and not downtube shifter braze-ons or built for cantilever brakes. I don't remove anything from the frames so I really don't want these braze-ons just sticking out.

Dogs are better, cats are okay. I like fixed gears. I have an 86' Schwinn Peloton converted to fixed. Don't worry though all of the stock braze ons are still intact as well as the complete Superbe group that came off of it is sitting around for a possible return to geared status if I so choose. I also had a 73' Paramount setup fixed, but never rode it so eventually sold the frame/fork. This is in addition to the 3 track bikes I have (down from 5 track bikes).

Too bad somebody doesn't just invent a mechanical gearing system to allow one to select different gears based on what one needs for varying grades, wind conditions, etc.

I have an aluminum death fork in my basement that's calling out for that Lambert.

God, that would be useful. Maybe also some kind of system that slowed you down without having to use just as much energy as you used to get going. Lever-operated, maybe?

And just to add to the rant. LBS' continue to astound me. When I brought my '72 Paramount frame in to ask a question about the BB, he told me how sweet a fixie it would make. I'd even told him I had all the original components.

*sigh* I do have a special place in my heart for fixies though. :rolleyes:
