Hey listies!

anybody here ever try to match Schwinn's "frost white" paint? i just got an '87 le tour in f.w. and it needs alot of touchup. thought i'd fish for suggestions before i hit the hobby store. i figure i'll go the testors route.

thanks, mark

thanks, but you haven't seen it up close! :twitchy: its a mess, but i can't wait to get to work on it. lots of chips and surface rust--all hidden under a nice healthy layer of grime. previous owner didn't believe in maintenance. :notamused:

Go to Advance Auto, Duplicolor and see how close you can get.
You may also be able to get a spray can of it, and paint larger sections, like dropouts, etc.

Frost White... the original Schwinn Madisons were that color, too.

there is a frost white in the duplicolor range. The real way to get a match with white is to take the fork in, and get the closest two matches. If the color is really close to white, then you will get a good match.

It can be pretty hard to match faded colors. For smaller touchup try mixing to match by hand. I have become a bit of a whiz at it by spraying different colors into a spay can lid. Looks like it would be best to tape off decals and repaint this one. That makes matching easier! Schwinn decals should be covered with clear coat first as tape can pul them off. I have used grease as a masking on some real delicate decals.
