I need some help please

I've got an Araya 27x1-1/4" rim that is bend to much to use. Does anyone know where I can send this wheelset to have it straightened?Do the spokes and hub have to be removed?

I think it would be advisable to get a new rim

is it bent or just out of round? If it is out of round then take it to you LBS and have them true it up for you.

Truing a wheel a is easy to learn and all you need to a very cheep spoke key or flat head screw driver. This could be a good oppertunity to learn. wheel truing basics

+1 If it is bent, replace it. Your cheapest option for a replacement is to find a donor bike at a garage sale or similar, and "borrow" a wheel from the donor. But that can take some time and hunting before you find one. Otherwise, post a wanted to buy in the bicycle section of Craigs List, and someone will have one for you. Post it in the bicycle for sale section, even though it is not for sale.

+1 If it is out of round, true it, using a $5 spoke wrench and the brake pads as a guide.

Unfortunately, the closest bike shop is 1-1/2 hours away. I would gladly buy another wheel if I could find one. This bike is all original and in very good condition. I would really like to find an NOS Araya wheel but I don't think that's going to happen. I have disassembled the wheel already, only to find a bend hub. I have a set of nice hub now I need to find a wheel. I can't afford all of that wheel balancing equipment. I don't do enough of that to justify. The chances of finding another wheel in my town is slim to none. My town is so small, both of the city limit signs are on one post. I guess I might just be up the creek.

See if there are any BF members close to your area that might be willing to help you re-spoke the old hub into the new rim.

TFF!!!

I'll do it. My zip code is 33647. For a wheel FedEx is probably your best option. Is it steel or aluminum?

I appreciate the offer Jim but was going to have a new set of tires and stainless spokes installed. The rim is aluminum.
