headset bottom cup stack problem

i've never posted in here, but you guys seem to know your stuff. i have an old Farleigh track with extremely tight clearances and i've run into a problem. i had to replace the awful headset that came on it and used a new tange with a very short stack. now the double-plate fork crown strikes the downtube if turned far enough. the bottom cup stack on the POS i had on there before didn't cause this with about 13mm of stack.

i was looking at c-record, but we all know the prices those can fetch and i've heard they are prone to pitting if ridden in the crazy weather that i'm going to ride this in.

does anyone know what headsets i can choose from that will give the crown clearance?

You can try going up a size with the bearings.

Depends on the actual headset that you replaced. I have had really good luck with the stronglight roller bearing headsets in the past...campy and tange levin both come with variable thickness fork races, and you can get some additional clearance by finding the right fork race. You can often mix and match, as the only real interface is usually at the bearing race (all other dimensions being equal).

i found an NJS stamped c-record headset for $50AUD and it fits perfectly. the crown has clearance and its beautiful too. winwinwin!
