I saved a kitten tonight

Along with one of my favorite bikes, almost ended up as a fixie...

In the grand tradition of East hill, I believe a tease is in order.

Note the derailleur hanger still intact...

Not a PX-10. I'll guess some form of LeJeune

You think?

The funny thing is, when I look at this bike, I realize it would make a beautiful fixie....

I hate those front drops. I remember them on a Motobecane Grand Jubilee frame I had. How in the hell do you fasten anything to a giant eyelet?

Moto Grand Jubilee. Funny, my frame had Campagnolo 1010B's.

Old style, mostly french, fender sets had a larger than normal peg that fit that eyelet. The fender stay goes through the peg and the nut is on the inside (wheel side) of the dropout. Probably one of the few things the french came up with that actually work OK besides just being weird.

Hey, Kurt, is that the one you bought from me for $60 and then flipped on eBay for $180?

Yes - and I'm still kicking myself for getting rid of it. The clear-coated chrome ends wouldn't have been that hard to clean off, now that I think of it.

Apologies for having made a profit on it .

Very nice!

What's the story behind the kitten rescue? And, where are the photos of said kitten?

And I'm kicking myself for having sold it to you at what I paid for it rather than making a profit since that seemed to be your intention.

I had intended to build it up for myself, but gave up once Tozovr dropped out of thin air with the gold Ukai 27" rims I intended to use - not to mention that the eyelets and clearcoat over the fork ends set me off. I hung it up in the shed, frustrated with the project - I eBayed it only after I found that I was rapidly running out of shed space.

That said, had I known you felt this way, I would have long ago set about to rectify it. If it would help to sooth matters, I have a spare set of NR brake calipers that I can give to you. Anything to make it up. I do value you as a friend, you know - I am quite sorry to hear that you have felt this way, particularly for this amount of time (I parted with the Moto about a year and a half ago, IIRC).

Ilikebikes tells me that you didn't really save a kitten . I am bummed.

I was hoping for both a bike and a kitten rescue...(very sad face here).

I don't have any bike I rescued but I can give you a kitten rescue. Four kittens actually.

Short version: Mid October... I capture 3 "born wild" kittens about 4 weeks old, 1 "born wild" kitten about 7-8 weeks old, one mom (of the 3 young ones), all at my work place. Had mom fixed innoculated de-flea'd, and released. Fostered the 4 kittens, decided to keep one, couldn't find suitable owners for the others (the missus has extremely stringent requirements), so we are keeping all four.

End of short version.

Epilogue:
Recently (10 days ago) caught kitten #5, sister of that initial 8 week old kitten (based on size, weight, etc). It had a glue trap stuck to its side, it is (unhappily) shaved free of the trap, recovering at the vet. She will be fixed, innoculated, and put up for adoption. She also bit me when I tried to clean off the trap, right through some very thick gloves. Apparently she does not have rabies. She's cute when she has fur but I'm a bit leery of her.

Epilogue 2:
Will do a Trap/Neuter/Release (TNR) of the two adults currently in the same place (where I work). I see one regularly, the other not so regularly. I see the mom pretty much 1-2x a day when I am at work.

Stringent requirements are as follows.. Adopter must provide the following (standard requirements for shelter cats, minus paying an adoption fee):
1. Name of vet and access to kitten's records
2. No declawing
3. Indoor only
4. Spay/Neuter when appropriate
5. All shots and checks
6. Proper care, feed, etc
7. Allow visit at some random time 6 months or more after adoption time
8. Guarantee return kitten to us if things don't work out
9. Not a surprise gift for boyfriend or girlfriend

Long story:

Some of the blog posts detailing the various stages of our (mis)understandings of the kittens' ages, genders, etc. I think we've spent enough to buy a set of 58mm profile carbon rimmed wheels. Yikes. Oh, this is C&V... so enough to buy a decent 80s full Campy SLX bike. How's that?

He saved a kitten by saving a bike from being made into a fixie. Because, as they say, everytime a bike is converted into a fixie god kills a tiny kitten.

That is a great read, and I am glad to hear that the kittens are now being properly homed .

Oddly, I had just been reading about cat genetics this afternoon, and was pleased to put my newfound knowledge of 'kitten caps' to use!

So, in no particular order, I hope that you have healed properly, that glue trap cat is comfortable, and that Grey is still in good shape.
