Hi,

Spotted this bike for sale. Looks like a nice bike but I the decal doesn't look like the De Rosa decal I'm used to seeing; but I saw some reference in some old threads to the fact that there were/are *two* genuine De Rosa bike builders in Italy.

Does this look legit? It supposedly dates from the 80's.

I'll repost my comments from the "finds" thread:

That's actually a 'fake' De Rosa. Well, built by a different De Rosa than the one familiar to most. Note the bicycle wheel for an 'O' rather than the heart emblem.

I've been looking for one of these for a while, because it's built very close to where my mother was born, and I don't know many Italian framebuilders who work in Southern Italy.

That's quite close to my size, but it's far too expensive, especially given the component group.

Here's the 'other' De Rosa website:

Are the two DeRosa families related, or do they just share a name spellling?

I think I'm going to differentiate them as follows:
DeRosa with a heart-O will be pronounced as De-Rose-ah
DeRosa with a wheel-O will be pronounced as De-Ross-ah

And with that I continue my hopes to one day own a De-Rose-ah. I'll go hide now.

So, I'm unclear by what you mean by "fake". It's not *the* De Rosa (with the 'heart' logo), but another less well known De Rosa?

I searched through old BF posts and saw reference to a brother of *the* De Rosa who builds bikes. Is that who this is?

Are they any good?

I emailed the seller a bit last night and he doesn't appear to know much about the bike; it is likely a bit too small for me in any case.

I don't think they're related. I read the link to the best of my ability, and there's no information to suggest a relationship. I mean 'fake' because the De Rosa of Pozzuoli would never sell for what 'the' De Rosa would. So the seller, knowingly or not, is benefiting from the similarity. It's obvious, however, that the frame in question isn't worth nearly $500. There may be some high-end Puzzuoli De Rosas, but that ain't one of them.

What bothers me is the font of logo in both DE ROSA names. Logo appears almost identical besides hart-wheel difference. I just can't believe there can be two framebuilders with the same surname drawing basically the same logo in more or less the same time.
