Identifying an old Bridgestone
Hi all,
A friend of mine just got an old Bridgestone. We're in the process of rebuilding it. I don't know much about Bridgestones. I thought maybe it was an '88 RB-4, but I don't know.
I think most of the components on it weren't the original, and in the last week we've replaced the BB and the headset. It didn't have wheels when I found it at a yard sale, so that won't be any help either.
The thing that stands out to me the most about it is that it has Bridgestone caliper brakes with a sort of long side-pull arm.

I have a 1988 RB-4, and yours isn't.
It's been awhile since I've looked at the old catalogs, but I believe all the RB series bikes were clearly labeled as such.

I recently sold what I believe was a 1971 Bridgestone--it was actually manufactured by the C. Itoh company of Japan who also sold the same frame models under their own name--that had a very similar headbadge, though obviously of an earlier incarnation. This could be one of the models that were sold by Sears, Roebuck rather than a local bike shop.

Here is Sheldon's link to the old Bridgestone catalogs. That's about all the help I can give, other than to say the '88 RB-4 didn't come in that color. And to me, the headbadge looks older than that.
We can see on the top tube where the name of the bike was, but it's been rubbed off. I guess I'm hoping for a Bridgestone junky to pick up on the thread and totally know what it is.
