Coventry Cross Enfield - ******ch, England ??serial number?? Dating Help??

Here is some pictures of a Coventry Cross I am fixing up.
Royal Enfield ******ch Coventry Cross

So far I have taken off the front fork and straightened it. The steerer that fits into the head tube was bent. I have done the back axle.

I am trying to date this bike and or find out where the serial number is. If there is one.

Any tips??

Do you know if the fork is original? If so it would be a later Raleigh produced bike (Raleigh had during the 40s-50s-60s bought up pretty much the entire old british bicycle industry). If this is the case the number should be right at the top of the seat tube somewhere near the clamp.

But it may be somewhere else - rear drop out or bottom bracket?

Enfield aka Royal Enfield was not part of the Raleigh Corp. They are the oldest continuous mfg of motorcycles in the world. The began in the late 1880's and mfg bicycles and motorbikes in Britain until 1955 (?) then in India . The company still exists in India under different ownership.

I have had a few bikes with the "Raleigh dimple" fork, not sure if they made by, replacements or what. The frame on your bike does not have Raleigh lugs, I believe that is purely an Enfield. Really nice by the way.

Not all frames will have #'s, but the hub will have a date code on it.

Thank you for the information. The front fork looks original to me. I shall take a look around the spots on the bike and will also take a few photos of the back hub for a look at a "date stamp".

So far I have rebuilt the front hub and am cleaning up the bike. It has little holes to put in grease or oil on the hubs and on the bottom bracket. I guess I need a little grease gun or something.

There have been examples on this forum and elsewhere that were almost certainly produced by Raleigh. I think there was some speculation that perhaps Enfield contracted Raleigh/TI to make bikes, rather than Raleigh buying their bicycle division, which may explain this puzzle.
