Who Rides A 56cm?
This needs it's own thread. The seller did not list a name in the 'brand' section, so it is listed as a 'vintage bike', instead of a Pogliaghi, which would garner a LOT more interest.
Too big for me, go at it fellas:

My size but not in my budget. A pretty bike like that needs some better photos.

Lovely bike, but definitely a lot later than the seller thinks. Judging by the SN, post-1985, and post-Sante. On the other hand, the seller has inadvertently put the correct era Super Record on the bike (give or take).

My size. My budget.
I don't like the color.

Its not from the 70's but 80's. Probably during the Basso period. Very clean and unused even, house art.
The size is probably 56 center to center.

Yes, looks more Basso than Rossin to my untrained eye. The parts selection with it is very nice. The buyer could probably sell the empty boxes to an Asian collector for a lot more than you would think.

I was going to say more Rossin than Basso, given the chrome and snazzy stay caps...but either way it's not a Sante-built job and too rich for my budget (tho it is the right size).

Besides putting the bike next to a much plainer background and shooting the traditional drive side photo what would you do to make the photos better? I have seen photos a lot worse than those. The detail is good and the color is nice. Maybe a close up of the Columbus sticker.

Assuming it is 56cm C-T, it is one silly little cm over my size. It is also over my budget, but definitely beautiful.

Just curious about your opinion.

I just thought a bike that nice should have photos equal to its beauty. A plain background and drive side full shots are a good start.
I guess I am spoiled by some of the shots that 55/rad has posted.

Beauty. One I could definitely be comfortable on, but despite it being worth it, it's not something I could justify right now.

I wonder if he'll take my 83 Nishiki Sebring in trade? No, Okay
I wonder if he'll take all six of my Nishiki's in trade?
Well, it was just a thought.

I could just about fit that, but can't afford it as I am saving up for a higher performance recumbent at the moment.

The Columbus sticker is definitely in the "On-Topic" zone. No SL or SLX designators. I think '70s is plausible, or Pogh had a lot of old stickers lying around.

If it was a 54 I never would have posted it here(you probably knew that). I tossed it to a good friend who rides 56's, but he is selling, not buying, vintage bikes, so I posted it here.
In any case, depending on how high it goes, it's liable to be a GREAT deal for someone. Have you seen what empty 80's Campagnolo boxes sell for?!?!
The seller either doesn't know what he has, or is very unfamiliar with how to do an auction on eBay.

Lots of builders had a lot of old stickers lying around. Or in drawers. Graphics, fastback seatstays, braze-on front derailleur all point to the post-Sante era. Not to mention the SN, which is more or less a slam-dunk.

I'm relieved it isn't my size, because I'd be tempted. I like it.

this is from CR's website:
Pogliaghi Bicycle Frame serial numbers
to establish approximate manufacture date...
Educated but unsure guessing as to serial number dating...
(Note: early production was low, 300-500 frames a year until the early 1970s, according to *The Custom Bicycle*)
1950-1960: #1 - #2500 +/- 500
1960-1970: #2500 - #8000 +/- 1000
1970-1983: #8000-14000 +/- 1000
(There is conflicting evidence over the quantity of production in the mid/late 70s. Some data suggests about 800 frames a year at that time. Other data suggests many fewer frames per year. We need more confirmed data to know exactly when the frames 9000-14000 were made. Was it 1970-1978? Or was it 1974-1982 or so? At this point the data conflicts.)
so that would imply that this is about 1982 or so...in the cusp of the turnover. But not, certainly, by Sante's hand.
It really is a pretty good deal, if you add up what all of those NOS parts cost. Would you experts think that this would ride better than, say, a Basso?
