Crank choice question

On my 81 Davidson I have a Zeus crank. I also have a Campy Chorus crank from 2005 on my crashed frame. The rest of the Chorus is on my good bike now, but I put an FSA crank on it and just left the Chorus on the old frame.

There are lots of new parts on this bike at this point, but the Zeus is still original. It is very noisy on the small ring, the big ring less so. It needs to be repacked in any case and if the cups or axle are pitted I doubt I can get replacements so easily.

Should I do the swap? The only cost will be for the Park/Campy BB tool, which also works on the cassettes so I could use it on the other bike too, and it isn't expensive anyway.

the chainrings on the chorus crank are going to be narrower than the zeus. 8-9-10 speed all user narrower chains then older stuff, which is 3/32".

Finding a replacement bb shouldnt be too hard, i believe you can just use a campy tapered one of the same spindle length.

Right about the bottom bracket. Campagnolo will work. Shimano isn't supposed to, but I've been running Athena cranks on a Shimano BB for over a year with no problem.

Zeus was practically 100% compatible with Campagnolo. Which also means that as long as you're running 5-7 speed, any 5-bolt 144 bcd chainring should work. Sugino and Sun Tour were the cost-conscious replacement of choice back in the day. TA Specialties is still making 144 bcd rings.

I guess I should also mention that I run a 10sp chain and cassette on this bike, so I use the old crank with a new narrow chain.

Maybe I'll give the crank a try without swapping the BB. It isn't all that hard to do that now that I've loosened both cranksets from the BB.
