My new workplace!
Picked up a job recently, inventorying a few bikes, thought you guys might like a couple of photos>>>
http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/b...X/_1167332.jpg http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/b...X/_1167334.jpg There are some sweet bikes in there, TONS of Schwinns, Varsitys, Calientes, Suburbans, World Tourists, etc. A Jupiter or two, some Masi, a Phillips, an Arcade, lots of old Dept store bikes, including a Sears trike, oh and a Flying Pigeon trike too (at least I think it's a FP, the headbadge is gone), and my favorite so far a Western Flyer Fairway Flyer (not the best bike in here, but it's friggan' cool). I've never seen so many Sturmey-Archer equipped bikes in my life! There's also a whole pile of pre-war bikes. There's also a LOT of crap too (magna, new schwinn, Next etc). man oh man is this fun, after we inventory all of them and the serials clear the police dept, I get to start rebuilding them. I wish I could pull some and sell em to you guys, I know there's a lot of stuff in here you'd all love, but alas the bikes are not mine but the shops owner. |
In the voice of Napoleon Dynamite. "Lucky" Congrats on the new job.

"you got like three feet of air that time!" |
That's kind of like crowded bike porn. A little dirty, but voluminous.
|
Yeah, a lot of them, like all the low end Schwinns will just get re-greased, new bearings, etc. as they are great for the people that want a cheap bike to get around town. The higher end or more collectible bikes will get a lot more love.
|
Looks like the local bicycle-thief retired!
Congratulations and onwards. Hope you can get a few choice ones out of the deal for your efforts. |
Yeah, there are a few in there that look like they might have been stolen we call them PSB's Probably Stolen Bike (like an almost new Gary Fisher MTB without wheels), hopefully not too many of them are stolen goods, but the police will let us know what comes up.
|
Better change that to: POSSIBLY stolen bikes. "Probably" implies complicity in said crime. "Possibly" only implies suspicion. Better safe than sorry.
Happy Trails! |
If there's a 52-54cm Masi in there, pass along my interest to the owner. As long as he isn't going to charge TOO much for it.....
|
Were these trade-ins? Repairs people didn't pick up? Sounds like you have journeyed into the promised land! Hopefully, you can get a good deal or two from the owner. What do you do in a case like this...keep a glycerine tablet under your tongue to help prevent a heart attack?
|
For you guys out there with a sense of humor...save these photos onto your hard drive...then include them in e-mails to people you haven't seen lately. The text could say something like ... "the wife complains I collect too much stuff...took a photo of our backyard...still can't get into the basement or garage....could you use any of these?" People to send it to? Your wife's obnoxious friends who haven't been over in awhile (because they don't like you).

This is the summer stock of bikes, I told the owner to stop buying bikes unless it's something really nice, for the love of god, no more Schwinns (Unless it's a Paramount or something)! I keep a cold shower on standby in case of rapid heart beat, sweating, and blurred vision. :thumb: I gotta find some info on these Jupiter Beat Deluxes he has, with octagonal tubing, pretty cool looking bike. The really heart wrenching ones are the Centurion, Styer, and Univega with the cable guides (and in the case of the Univega, the derailleur hanger) hacked off. I'm glad they ride bikes, but the hipsters need to stop killing these old frames, Maybe I'll bone up on brazing and fix them. |
First pic, first bike,
bent fork? Regards, J T |

If I were you, I'd go ahead and bring the "some Masi" inside so that they don't get rained on. Matter of fact, I hereby volunteer to store them in my basement. I'll even pay the shipping.

Umm could you post the coordinates of that back yard, I mean just as a matter of professional interest???

You don't just say "some Masi" i think most would agree that if we were in your shoes we would have already done whatever it take to get the MASI out of the pile and indoors and checked over for damage etc and figure out exactly what it is. It could be worth 5 or 10 bike on it's own.

How about an update OP. What have you found in the pile? Post some new pictures, please. :)
|
Ironically, the OP's name means "police" in Japanese.
