Got me a Colnago.....

I picked this up while in L.A. - didn't really pay much of anything for it. I'm thinking of making a nice little fixie for my daughter.

Question - if I heat up the braze-ons will they just drop off, or should I just fire up the dremel and be done with it?

Hacksaw. If all else fails, vise-grip.

Wwdd?

ultraman6970 01-20-09 12:46 AM

Why take them off?? I mean... it is a colnago and you might want to sell it afterwards or something. In my opinion would be a crime to do that. Would you try to cut the whole roof of your car because you want it to look like a convertible?

I wouldnt even bother taking the levers off. Or maybe putting those shimano downtube adapter things for brifters so at least it will look like something that does something :D

Nice finding ;)

Nice find! And in my size too...drool
I'm sure she'll love it

Hey, if the braze-ons are metal, does that make them iron-y ?
Just wondering....

roguedog 01-20-09 02:44 AM

Hey Boss.

If she isn't interested.. I am.. and I think I'm in your hood.. or there bouts anyway!

(sorry had to ask)

And I don't even need anything sawn off....

Wino Ryder 01-20-09 04:26 AM

Nice try

...but it is still kinda funny, in a morbid, phsychotic, drew sort of way. :D

nice Colnago too.

Nobody deserves it more than you Bossman, after rescuing so many shoddy Peugeots! Who was it that had the $10 Masi couple of years ago?

Send it to me, and I can pray them off! :innocent: The miracle is that as the braze-ons evaporate away into the either, the original paint on the tubes mysteriously fills in the gaps, never revealing the bike was anything but a fixie ;) (although one time the original spot of a cable boss seemed to look similar to an image of someone ).

Where I run into trouble is on the rear dropouts. I've not quite figured out how to transform the horizontal forward facing road bike dropouts into perfect track bike dropouts. The last attempt left the dropouts facing backwards, yet pointed skyward, sort of like praying hands? :o

"Question - if I heat up the braze-ons will they just drop off, or should I just fire up the dremel and be done with it?"

I would give it a "quickie" and just flatten em out with a 16oz ball peen hammer. :twitchy: :D :fight: Lp

nuovo_record 01-20-09 07:05 AM

i would leave them on - just on case you need gears......and it's a colnago!

treebound 01-20-09 07:13 AM

Bondo! You can build up a nice aerodynamic snag-free bulge, then some later owner can chisel the stuff off if they want.

ps, how do you like the work tray on your workstand? I've been thinking of adding one to my Ultimate stand.

miamijim 01-20-09 07:45 AM

The tubes are already dented so what difference does it make. Use a torch...its quicker.

bibliobob 01-20-09 07:45 AM

I think that using the skull of a dead kitten as a prying tool is the only approved method. The double karmic negatives cancel each other out.

While you're at it, don't forget to spraypaint or powdercoat it into obscurity! Then you can claim that it's "custom!"

Old Fat Guy 01-20-09 08:18 AM

Do anything you want with it, just have the Regal sent to me as a 'finders fee'.

mobile homeless 01-20-09 08:22 AM

Har. Even humor-wise, beating a dead horse with a cute kitten is still painful mentally, if not physically. On the other hand, it has helped in my step by step program to cure myself of the need to open bike forums, perhaps one side-step removed from a fine example of the Imp of the Perverse.

rugerben 01-20-09 08:30 AM

The other thing you ought to do is put a vice around the frame tubes and squeeze them until they form an oval shape so that you can have an "aero" frame.

lotek 01-20-09 09:12 AM

I suggest a sawzall, or if you don't have access to one of those a cut off disk on your dremel.
One thing that bike needs though are Deep V rims when you Drew it.

I'm thinking one rim should be blue, and the other should be pink?

Picchio Special 01-20-09 09:42 AM

At least get a top tube pad before you do the rest of the work, so it's not such an eyesore.

nah, go urban stealth and use pipe insulation and electricians tape.

BBM... Is that a Porsche I spy in the background? Good choice in cars and bikes, man. I love me some Porsche's.
Nice joke also. Too bad a lot of people didn't get it.
