Puch Meteor Luxe
Lookit my new (old) Puch Meteor. paid $90.00 on Craigslist (what can I say? I had to have her!). She rides smooth and the paint looks like it's been well cared for. I don't have much info and don't even know for sure if it belongs in C&V. She has a classy feel about her and the tires were old and crumbly. I put on new brake pads and New Kenda Pyramids 26 x 1 3/8's. She handles well and will become my new commute. Her first real commute flight will be tomorrow morning once I get the light and blinkie put on and adjust the brakes abit. She even has a trailer hitch! Anybody have any info on these Puchs? Google provides very little. I'm gonna post her on the Commuter thread too since she will be my new ride. Now when I say I'm gonna ride the Meteor, Ya'll know what I mean. :D

Nice find! Lucky dog - wish I'd found that...just looking at the frame geometry and I'll bet she rides real nice. Get out the wax - if you haven't already. Make some heads spin.

Nice.....2 things. That stem is pretty tall. Check it to make sure it is inserted to its minimal insertion line so you don't do a face plant and or get impaled when it breaks. 2nd.....What cranks are those?
Oh...And the bike looks to me like it used to be a 5 speed with a stem shifter (judging by the cable stop braze-on on the drive side downtube) that someone has turned into a single speed. It looks comfy and practical. It should serve you well! |
I have a 1981 Puch/AD catalog. The Meteor Luxe in it is a 27"-wheel, ten-speed, drop bar, heavy steel,....
Soooo....not much help there! |

Took the Meteor out for her first commute to work today and she handles like a dream. The rear brake vibrates abit when I stop so I'll adjust that and clean the rims really good. I do go over 2 hills on the way home and did miss my granny gears but this bike is alright.
One question. I can't get the leverage I need when standing on the pedals with these handlebars. Should I leave them on and tough it out or should I switch out to riser bars? These handlebars look classy but I could really crank out the speed with riserbars when going up hills. I have some riser bars in the garage but they're black and most of this bike is chrome. As an utter Puch-Nut, my opinion on this matter is: As long as one leaves the frame alone, which is what the 'Puch' really is, one should feel free to deck that frame out in any way that they wish. Especially if the swaps equal compelling one to ride the machine more. But should anyone find a Vent Noir, or other really nice Puch, and decide to turn it into a "fixie," may some kind soul please leave a full-grown Lion in their house - a hungry one.

There is a Puch Meteor Lux mixte (12 speeds/27" wheels) up on our local CL for $40. I have been thinking of taking a look, but wonder if it is worth it given the hi-ten frame.

Made a few minor changes since the last time. She now has a Bell bell, new Bell Comfort saddle, Cateye 1000 power opticube light and rear Bell blinkie. I bought a rack from ebay and put it on and now need to find some good saddlebags. I fastened the rack in two places, a hole right above the dropout and I placed a bracket right behind the seatstay. I guess thats how it's supposed to go, it feels sturdy.

Very nice! Bravo! You have a great PUCH there.

Might as well take the rear reflector off mate it aint needed no more !
|
btw; I luv the bike !

Thanks Panther. Yeah, Ozneddy I'm gonna find a way to attach the blinky to the end of the rack and definatly get rid of that useless reflector which is facing up and put away that trailer hitch thing. But i'll wait till I get my saddlebags. I was fixing to get another bike from craigslist but I figured I'll use the moneys to pimp up the bikes I do have. I have another rack, I need to decide which bike gets it.
I'm having a hard time deciding which bike to ride each week since I like all of them. Ernest |

Nice looking Puch. I too have a Meteor Luxe, but mine is a 27" 10 speed that I picked up for free. It is in pretty rough shape, but it will clean up decently. I haven't had much luck finding any info about them either. Mine is equipped with Suntour components (Spirt FD, Seven RD, Index Shifters) and steel rims. Nice find!

It looks identical to an eighties Schwinn Collegiate. It also looks like it could be a 3 speed that is missing the shifter cable.

Just bought this off CL. Wanted to know what everyone's thoughts were. Going to use it to commute and pull the kids around in the Burley. I don't know a lot about vintage 10 speeds. Did I get a good buy?
Below are the pix from CraigsList. Thanks for your opinions and advice. |

Thanks! I'll try to follow up once I get it on the road and have an opinion about it.
