help dating my masi
need your help. I have a masi gran criterium with two sets of numbers on bottom. one says smc60(i cant believe that is the size because it seems way to small to be a 60cm) and the other says a8149. anyway it is signed faliero masi. I am assuming that it is about a 1971 bike as I believe it was made a year before masi went to california. the puzzling part is that the nuovo record deraileur say 1980 on it. I guess it could have been put on later. anyway. does anyone know the year????
thanks joe |
The info you need will be here:
http://bhovey.com/Masi/ I can tell you it's definitely not a '71 Italian bike though. |
Where do you find these wonderful bikes? Is there a secret dump you go to along the highway?

As you may have discovered if you visited Bob Hovey's site, your bike was built in 1981 in San Marcos, after the move from Carlsbad. You are also correct about the 60 indicating the size in cm's, though Masi usually measured from center crank to the very tippy top (including paint thickness) of the seat lug point, so they do tend to run smaller than the size indicted on the BB. (Some people easily confuse decades and continents, apparently). |
