help-seatpost dilemma 26.6 or 26.4?

just beginning to put together a single speed using a Super Course frame (year unknown but the almost gone decal says 531 plain gauge, frame is "coffee" and SN on left dropout is 204500). No previous parts to use as "templates".

The seat post ID measures 1.05 inches (thanks to my new Mitutoyo calipers). So, should the seatpost be 26.6mm or 26.4mm? Thank you for any experience and/or wisdom. Oh, and is the SN significant?

Should be 26.4, but if you are near your LBS, have them measure, just in case.

I've had several Super Courses, and even ones made in the same year (1971 or 1972) had seatpost sizes ranging from 26.0mm to 26.4mm. I doubt yours is 26.6. But I can tell you that my '71 Super Course takes a 26.2mm post, and my '75 Super Course MkII takes a 26.4mm post. Both are straight gauge Reynolds 531 framesets.
