When did this turn into an elitest rant thread? The OP asked what drew meant. He got his answers with and without flavor.
While I agree that the elitism in this forum or how hard it is for a new poster to feel like he/she is a part of the community and not just an annoyance to it's established members is prevalent, *****ing about it on this type of topic is a bit uneccesary. If there was a topic about elitism in these threads I'm sure it'd be a much more acceptable place for it. As for the cat picture, it seems like it's not a good candidate for detering people from sawzalling their frame as the cats used in the picture aren't relatable as being "cute" thus striking the sympathy nerve in all of us, even if it is shriveled up. Those cats look agressive and could stand a beatdown due to their impertinent stares. (Let it be know I'm not an advocate for kitten murder or any ask of cruelty upon cats.) |
And I am a cat and dog owner. I don't advocate it either. Just think of the kittens in the above photo as getting a glimse of a drewed-up Colnago frame and the picture makes more sense.
Also, this must be a popular picture as I've only used it three times in two threads and already there are complaints about over use. Yeesh! You want cute kittens? Here you go: http://www.funnycatpix.com/_pics/super_cute_kittens.jpg |
Scottish Folds! Man the one right of center would keep me from bustin' ghosts if it meant it's death. question my sexuality if you wish, but that cat is adoreable.
I see where the previous kitten picture is coming from now. |

We have a lot of fun, and established a long time ago that people can do what they want with their bikes. What you're seeing here is the "aaaargh!" factor, and it's nothing more than that. Very few folks on C&V take themselves very seriously. Feel free to post any time. On a funnier note (please): My LBS has a new, 19-year old wrench, and he's pretty good. He rides a chrome Bianchi track fixed gear, and a Santana steel tandem, usually by himself. He just got done restoring a 1974 Peugeot down to the decals for a friend, free labor. And his name is Drew. The most common way to walk into the LBS is with a resounding "Drew, what ARE you DOING?" His response? "Killing Kittens!" He's a keeper. :D |

And fabulous parting gifts!
I should add that I managed to draw the hacksaw over my right thumb knuckle when I was modifying my Velo Cheapo build. It was a gusher. Be careful out there, kids! Neal |

On topic, though, I really don't have a problem with people altering their frames, provided they do it carefully, skillfully, intelligently, etc. That means the end result actually has to be better, in some fashion, than what they started with. If the end product is a unique and stylish fixie that is ridden and loved, that's fine. If the end product is a botched frame that nobody wants any more, that's a Drew. It's wrong to take something nice, ruin it for everyone else, and then around and not want it yourself. |
