Question for biopace buffs

I'm running a Shimano R100 crank and a 42t biopace chainring (130 bcd) on my fixie. The set up suits me fine except for one thing: the crank arm won't accept other 130 bcd chainrings. When I tried putting on a Sugino, for example, it wouldn't quite fit.

Is there a reason for this?

Not to sound patronizing, but are you sure the Sugino ring wasn't a 110? I'm pretty sure the Biopace stuff I have all takes standard dimension rings.

My bad on mentioning Sugino (I have many Sugino rings, alas). The round ring I tried slapping on was indeed a 130. But perhaps it's worth another try. Thanks.

Assuming both rings are 130's flex the Sugino to make it fit. Sometimes the 'spider' part of the rings get hung up on the 'tabs' on thei nner side of the arms.

I've worked with many, many Shimano cranksets that came stock with Biopace rings; all took the standard 110/130 BCD round rings with no problems.

(always looking for 40t/130 and 50t/110 Biopace rings)
