unknown frame
 

Hey everybody!

Just salvaged this one. Wouldn't think twice about it if it didn't have some fine parts on it. More in the pics. The frame has some interesting lugs and no decals so I wonder if there's anyone who might shed some light on the identity.

I have no idea, but that frame has a LOT of potential to be amazing.

I draw a blank, but it seems like a great find with some nice detailing. The plain vanilla BB shell points to a production frame but it looks decent...what's the BB threading and the seat post size? Seems like it could be Japanese in spite of the Campy ends, I know it seems implausible.

crank and brakes don't really look like they belong. Probably Japanese.

Funny thing, the flat finishing at the end of the stays and fork remind me of my fake Rossin:

My frame was identified as Losa built which was/is a company that built for many other Italian firms (like Guerciotti, Monti, Ciprandi, Magni, Ives, etc..) They also built frames and shipped them without paint to the US and were sold as house brand bikes.
Please measure the width of the bottom bracket shell to confirm if it is Italian. I'd like to see some pics of the underside of the lugs and the rear brake bridge as well. Is there a braze on to keep the shifters from sliding down the tube?

You've got an upper-hand with that braze-on, that's for sure. Lugs the same?

Nope......But other brands in the list of makes I posted are very, very close. After a super informative member on CR responded to my request for an ID and hours of searching I noticed 2 things when it comes to the Losa built frames....Squared ends on the stays and fork ends and 2 different lug designs with varying little details to differentiate the brands. I'll PM you a copy of the email that started my search. It's a fun read.

Looks Italian... lug cutouts similar to a Fiorelli I have.

BB threading reads 36x24T.
I guess that seat post diameter is 26.8, but it seems that the lug got a bit elliptical so my old seatpost won't fit right in.

BB width is 70mm.
There's no braze-ons, only a clamp.

Interesting thing. When i checked the downtube under some light, some letters faintly came into view.
sorini or soridi or something similar. "sori" definitely, the final two letters i'm not sure of.

OK it's Italian. scratch my JP comment, maybe check into the list of Losa brands that kpug505 has offered for one that matches with "sori" (sorry, I can't help with sori ;)) unless it's one of those Saronni frames that Colnago sub-contracted (Aelle maybe) there was a recent thread, check for it.

At first that's what I thought too. I have Coppi Fiorelli. I'll dig it out and see how it compares to mine.

While the brake bridge looks the same as my Coppi nothing else does...

Finally got it.

Used a UV lamp to inspect the frame and decals showed up just nice. Turns out it's a Rog Sprint frame.
Rog was an old ex-Yugoslavian (now Slovenian factory) that even had it's own team.
It's production range was from crappy city bikes (Pony) to all kinds of racing bikes. Since there's virtually no data on the internet, I have no idea where to put my aquisition, quality wise.

But, I'm sure it'll make a nice beater :)

Mystery solved! Never heard of the brand but the frame speaks for itself...Great idea on the UV!
