Maillard hub to fixie/single?
Are the old french Maillard hubs convertable to single/fixed with some sort of inexpensive conversion? Or
am I going into the french black hole again?
I don't ride fixie but there's a guy looking for some cheap wheels, I have these old Rigidas...

It depends which Maillard hub. If it's a helochromatic, you're likely out of luck. If it's threaded, you can put any single-speed freewheel on it.

Helicomatic was a nice idea gone wrong. Gone wrong in that it was a proprietary design. You had to buy their cassettes in order to replace it. It was held on by a serrated lockring, and curved splines. Most have a noticable label with the brand name, so you probably don't have one.,,,,BD

I had a 1980s maillard hub that was BSC/ISO threaded... I used it with a shimano DA track cog for 2 years.

The Helicomatic failed despite being a nice idea because the design was flawed. The bearings in the rear hub were too small and failed early.

Ok I just looked at it again. It's not the dreaded Helicomatic, so stop the brawling. Also, I really doubt every single one of those failed, a few probably did one year, somebody freaked, Sheldon wrote an article on it. Sometimes I think the bike industry is full of drama.
It's an Atom hub, Atom freewheel. The hub is pretty cool, comes with the ancient "butterfly" quick release lug nuts. These look pretty cool, as long as you don't catch your shoelace on them or something.
Ok if I sell this wheel, they can put a track hub on this, right? If so, what MFG?
Thanks to the guy with the Mag light, but I prefer the new Planet Bike LED strobe-freakout. The mag lights failed miserably in tests 2000 feet under water.
