Bling warning part II, chrome SLT 12.2!

It's done for now. I need an Arabesque FD to be complete, maybe a crank too. The chain is also a little chunky for the 1985 freewheel. The shifting chatters unless done perfectly and quickly, a 6/7 speed chain
should liven it up some. It's the original from the donor 12.2, but in excellent condition. Just the whole wide spaced versus 6 speed UG thing. The vinyl decals were originally meant for another Le Tour project that was scrapped. The original 12.2 decals were MIA, so it needed something? Yep, those are real Dia Compe hoods, not tthe rubber repops. They came on the Gran Turismo, and are as close to new as you're likely to find for originals. The brake shoes work as well as Kool Stops. They were still soft and just needed a light sanding.

Overall though, it rides as nicely as the Voyageur. Comfy ride, and the handling actually feels quicker than the 11.8. Maybe the fork rake is different? I always thought these bikes had identical frames, I'm
beginning to think differently about it. Same width bars and stem length, tire size is only 1/8" different, same frame size, etc.,,,,BD

Before

After!

Yes. I am going to reinstall the headbadge. I have to search for a spare screw. One of them was stripped, and was hell to get out without bending the badge. It finally let go before the hair pulling started, lol. Hopefully the threads in the head tube are still good.,,,,BD

Nice. However, I place a vote to bring back the patriotic cloth tape. Also, I have never seen Schwinn decals like that. What era were those used?

I have a set of longer reach 600 calipers from about 1985. The Dia Compes work fine though. Mafacs, I don't know. I have a set of Universals? I'm not sure a rear adapter would fit in the seat tube clamp, worth a look I guess. How about some modolo anatomic levers and the aforementioned 600 calipers?,,,,BD

Decals are in no way a Schwinn design. They are thunderbird script from Decalzone.com. I didn't know at the time that they could make
letters smaller than one inch, since that's all they listed.

Nice bike, but honestly, I like the flipper I sold last Summer better.

Original purchase price about $35 (yeah, I know you should never tell what it cost, but who cares?)

The 1985 600's came in a polished chrome that would look great, or in a bronzed chrome, maybe not so great.

The 600 calipers look like anodized aluminum, rather than chrome? I haven't checked the reach, so not sure yet if they'll even work. They might be perfect for all I know. There also might be an issue with the stop on the rear caliper being on the opposite side from the top tube guides?

I also just acquired a Campy Athena crankset, which would give it a touch of class. Yep, with the Campy rings too.. I also have the Nuovo Record FD/RD/shifter group I bought for the Grand Record, but that was going to be the next project in line. It would be pretty though, that's for sure.,,,,BD

And put 600 on the Grand Record? Not too thrilled with that idea. I spent WAY too much on the shifters for that group. I think there may be a C-record FD/RD available from someone I know? This bike would be very nice with a Campy Redo. Maybe some dark anodized rims? I was going for as original
as possible, but the ideas are piling up fast, hehe.,,,,BD
