Sturmey S5 shell wear?

Good morning, awhile ago I bought a '67 S5 hub. The left axle cone was
adjusted way too loose, so I pulled it apart and cleaned out the
varnish (old dry oil) and inspected parts for wear. Everything looked
good except the outside of the dog ring had scoring and there was a
3/8" wide groove inside the shell where the big side of the planet
pinion had been rubbing/chattering. The planet cage looked newer than
the rest and had zero wear on the dog ring side. Emory papered the dog
ring smoother and installed the guts into a AW shell. A couple hundred
miles later I was changing the rear tire and noticed the push rod had
shiny bits on it, so I pulled the hub apart and the planet pinion is
starting to cut/wear the shell in the same place as the old hub.....
The axle is within 1/2 mm of true/straight and the bearings where
adjusted right. Is this common problem and if so is there a fix?
Replace the dog ring? Tim
