DeRosa ID?

I'm proud to say, I'm now the owner of an old DeRosa racing bike! I acquired it about two weeks ago and have spent a bunch of hours (not to mention quite a few bucks) cleaning and restoring it ever since. No one seems to know the exact age, but best guesses from my LBS and others put it circa 1980. Paint and decals appear to be original but I cant seem to find a serial number anywhere on the frame. Check out the pics and if you know the exact year it was made, please let me know -- I'd really love to find out! FYI, the left chain stay says "De Rosa Competition"......

Sbarone,

yah, welcome to the forums and C&V.
Possibly an SLX ?
I'm sure the true tifosi will be here shortly with a definitive answer.

This is the 'other De Rosa', not a Ugo De Rosa.

damn, I didn't even notice that.

(See I told you the tifosi would be here soon).

Yes, the "O" in De Rosa has a circle with a dot in the middle of it instead of a heart.

Thanks for the welcomes everyone! Yeah I noticed most De Rosa's I've been seeing have the heart rather than the dot in the "O" in mine. So does that mean I have a "knockoff" or some lesser quality version? A couple of folks thought it might have been an early Primato say from 1984-86.

It's not a knockoff or a lesser version, it's a different builder whose name is also De Rosa.

There were no Primato's in 1984-86. If the bike fits you and rides well, don't fret.

It's better, because it's from Southern Italy! Pozzuoli to be precise:

DeRosa Bike - Pozzuoli

Thanks JYB! I checked out the site....but alas I do not read Italian. I have never owned a bike made by the other DeRosa but I really love the look and ride of this bike. That must be why I was not able to find a serial # on the frame...guess they only produce small lots? I'll try emailing them to see if I can get a positive ID on the date of manufacture but not sure how successful I'll be. I'm also now wondering if they would have only used Campy (which I would assume) since some of the components are older Dura Ace. I just figured the owner before me did that rather than replace with the more expensive Campy parts.

Lots of Italian builders of the time did not use serial numbers, though that changed during the 1980's, especially for the manufacturers that expanded.
