Need help with Old Peugeot

I just picked up a cool old peugeot road bike for a good price on criagslist. It needs tires and I am not sure the exact ones it needs. Could anyone recommend a good commuter tire and tube set available online? Thanks very much for any help.

I'm thinking of changing my handle to Cuda Special. Or maybe Picchio ZL1.

I am glad to join the Cuda group I guess. Same name I use on every forum.

I assume the serial number is on the very bottom of the frame. If so the number is 2293709. I am not sure on the wheel size. I assume you measure diameter but I am a newb to bike stuff. Help?

The bike is white with Type II decals according to the site you sent. Thanks for that. There are currently no tires on the bike so I can't check the sidewall for size like on a car. I believe the wheels are for 27in tires but was hoping for some confirmation before I purchase. Thanks for all of the comments so far.

If you say it's type II on that website, it is most likely a UO8. I have a '72 UO8. I would expect it would be 27" most likely but like the other guys said photos would help. I ordered panaracer paselas for mine. I have heard Michelin World Tours are decent as well and a bit cheaper. Both decent all around tires with gumwalls to keep the vintage look. Search this forum or google there is tons of info out there on these.

Great bikes enjoy.

Does it have hook bead rims?

What do the old tires say on them? Do you see a "622" or a "630"?

Panaracer Pasela tires get a lot of recommendations.

I commuted on a UO-9 for a year and a half on one pair of continental ultra gatorskins (27 X 1 1/4) with no flats, also using a conti tube.

+1 I have a set of Panaracer Paselas and I like them. They have more of a tread than I had expected, according to Sheldon Brown treads on road tires are not ideal either.
