What is the make of this bike?
4 Attachment(s)
Being somewhat retired from the golf business after about 45 years, I keep busy by receiving donated bikes from the local So. Oregon area, refurbishing them and giving them away free to local schools, Boys and girls clubs and the Sheriffs Bicycle program. I try to place 5 or 6 bikes per week. So far, so good. I receive anything from kids bikes, mtn. bikes or road bikes. My question is in regard to a donated bike. It has a Sugino crankset, Shimano "Light Action" rear derailleur, Shimano front derailleur, Shimano front and rear brakes, Shimano "suicide" brake levers, Weinmann 116 Alloy 27 X 1 1/4 rims, and Shimano index Isis stem derailleur levers. The serial # on the underside of the BB is 611336557. Hopefully I can download some pictures to help the mystery. The frame is steel and is decidedly lighter than a Schwinn World Sport which I origanally thought it might be (serial #s don't jibe).

Need better pictures of the lugs and dropouts of the frame, preferably in good light.
That said, it looks like a decent lower mid-range machine. Nothing special enough to put excessive effort into ID'ing it. -Kurt |
+1
It's an OK, low-to-mid price bike, probably from the late '80's or early '90's. Nothing special, but a step up from Wal-Mart bikes. |
Looks like the same parts other then rims and similar lug work to my Wife's 1987 Georgena Terry Gambit. I haven't found the name of the company but they are gone. They spec built for stores and were out of Taiwan.

+1 on lower mid range, probably late 80's. Might have been made by Giant in Taiwan. They had enormous output and made very well constructed bikes for the price. All the late 80's Schwinn world sports and travelers, and possibly even the le tours were made by Giant, and they also built for Centurion, GT, Nishiki, and many, many others. See if there's a made in Taiwan sticker on it. That might give a clue.

Thanks to the posters of this thread. There is not a single letter, decal or anything other than the sereial #, so will accept the findings. Thanks again,
