1988 Trek 1200
Hey I recently picked an old Trek 1200... I think its a 1988 because that was what the guy was telling me how much it was and I also googled 1988 Trek 1200 and it came up with a blue/yellow aluminum Trek that looks exactly like mine.
I got it for $135... That's a pretty good deal right? I did a search and didn't find much information. Can anyone tell me much about it? I'm looking to change out the 'cassette' because it is really rusted. Probably the chain too. Any ideas on which. I was looking at sheldonbrown and with the friction shifters I could even do a 7 speed freewheel. Oh and I cannot get the cassette out with the right tools. Any tricks or tips? |
Hmmm, sounds like you have that funky shimano cassette...Uniglide? If it is, the small cog unscrews. You have to put a chain whip on the small cog and a chain whip on one of the others then twist in opposite directions.
That sounds like a good price to me. I have a 1990 Trek 1420 which is very similar to yours and I love it. Got any pictures of it? -Matt |
Unfortunately I don't have any pictures because I haven't really gotten the time. Plus my bike is in my apartment at college while I'm stuck back home :(. I added some yellow bar tape which really matches the yellow lettering on the blue frame.
