Lacquer or other apres polishing?

I'm polishing up some old aluminum parts and the results are quite good, but I'm wondering how to keep the shininess lasting forever. I've read that shooting some clear lacquer on them will work, but am wondering if there are other methods.... Thanks!

Well, it doesn't have to be lacquer. Almost any clear coating will work,... for a while. The thing about lacquer is it can be remove by re-dissolving it. It does not polymerize, the solvent just evapoarates. Polyurethanes, epoxies, etc all polymerize and removing them, or even touching them up can be a major headache.
