i have just bought a benotto bike and would like some more infomation
the advert is below
I am selling my 1980's Italian Benotto racing bike(made in the Benotto factory in Mexico) . The frame SIZE is 23". The paintwork is original and acceptable, although it could be resprayed, I personally have kept the paintwork original, as are all the stickers. I have also had several of the bolts and the quick release benotto levers re-chromed. There are obviously wear and tear marks and chips as can be seen in photos. This to me adds to the fact that the bike is a genuine classic! ( there are not many around). I have replaced the chain set and gear change. The chainset is a stronlight I am not sure of the gearchange as Specialist Cycles of Norwich replaced both on my budget. The brakes are modelo corsa, the pedals shimano. The frame is of lugged steel consruction with a heart cut into the bottom of the frame- a Benotto trade mark. The weight as it is is 24 pounds, not bad for steel! The handlebar stem and seat post are new alloy replacements. The wheels are NISA, the seat is a new POGGIO, the handlebars are ITALMONDIAL, being wrapped in original leather trim (stitched.) The bike is ready to ride. (I do not want to post as I have experienced damage as a result in the past! )

There have been quite a few reports of breakage issues with Mexican Benottos because of overheating during brazing. I would check it over pretty carefully, especially at the bottom bracket tube junctions. Just something to be aware of. It looks like a nice bike overall, though not particularly rare (though perhaps it is where you are). It doesn't appear to be an upper-level Benotto, but should be fun to ride.

thankyou for the reply, i will check the frame , it was £45 so i hope worth it though if the frame is cracked wont pay, anything else to look out for? signs of quality or not, from my understanding this is a low end model i think a modelo 800?

"Low end" in the Benotto range means it may well still be built with decent tubing, i.e. Columbus Zeta, which is chrome-moly (good quality) but straight-gauge (not "butted" by making the tubing thinner - and therefore lighter - at places where it does not need to be as strong). The components are probably entry-level, and may function fairly well. The construction is probably pretty rudimentary but likely to ride pretty well - i.e. the overall workmanship/finish/alignment may be less than "spot-on," but not to an extent you'd notice or care about while pedaling. For what you paid, I think you did pretty well.

thankyou for you help and information , reasurring, the seller confirms no cracks so will go for it. For aesthetics i will change the handle bars, have bought some nice benotto ones, will post pics, kind regards
